How might you go about...

Finding the owner of a stray animal? My husband brought a cat inside to me that he found outside. We took a pic and posted to a local military site (we live on base), then bathed her and pulled off the fleas we found on her. I don't think the humane society would check to see if she had a chip unless we surrendered her to them to the tune of like 50 bucks. Any other suggestions? We would rather not pay that 50 since we're already going to have to de-flea all our animals just to make sure they don't become infested. I already had to tell my husband we can't keep the cat lol. We already have enough animals that I take care of and an infant.

I think if you go to a vet or animal shelter they will check for a microchip for free. Call and see.
