Need a little reassurance

posted 29th Apr
According to my midwife, I'm exactly 36wks tomorrow (I think/hope I'm actually a little farther along than that). As of 4/28 I was already 4cm and 60%, and probably won't make it much longer. I'm on bed rest to try to keep him in for a little while longer if at all possible, but I guess I just kind of need reassurance that if he does come out at 36wks he'll be okay. My midwife was shocked but she didn't seem very concerned. Since this is my first, everyone told me that I'd go late, probably not until June, but in reality I probably won't make it to May! Pretty stunned to find that out.

Anyone have a happy, healthy 36 weeker?

I didn't personally, but my mom had my younger sister at 36 1/2 weeks, and she was a perfectly healthy baby. I think they kept her one day extra, just to be safe, but she never had any other health problems.

I will be delivering this weekend. At barely 36 weeks. I had steriod shots, but my doctor isn't worried. My aunt had almost all of her kids (she has 8 ) a month early and they all where fine.

Girls lungs mature faster then boy lungs do. If you have a boy he could possibly have some breathing issues. Probably nothing more then just a little oxygen and out the next day.
Babies are born all the time at 36 weeks, some are in bad condition the rest are born perfectly happy and healthy, it's a win-lose situation.

Good luck!

I was born at 35 weeks way back in the day   I was on oxygen for the first day and kept for a week so they could make sure I was gaining weight. But like I said that was 23 years ago so things have changed (for the better in this area).

You meant May, right?!

I think it is possible you may go early but you also might not go for another couple weeks. Just depends on the baby and when he/she is ready.

Its possible to be as dilated as you are for several weeks.

If you do go early it is possible that he may be perfectly fine.... however, its also possible that he/she may need oxygen for a little while after... just depends on how developed the lungs are.

Until the time comes that you have your child I would try not to worry. I knwo that's easier said than done, but if you don't know what's going to happen, what's the sense in worrying about something that might not?!

They consider 37 weeks to be full term so I doubt one week would make a huge diff. Their lungs are fully developed by then.

My daughter was born right at 36 weeks, and my son right at 34, both are healthy as horses and dont have any troubles at all.

Like I said, according to my midwife I'll be 36wks tomorrow but I think I'm a little farther than that. Her due date has me at 35wks 6days today.

I'm not sure my midwife is going to let me go to 38wks if baby doesn't come on his own. My blood pressure shot up 60 points inbetween my last two visits. We're waiting on bloodwork results now. She thinks I have pregnancy induced hypertension. One week my bp was low, two weeks later it was high even for someone who normally has high bp.
