Drug commercials

posted 29th Apr
Okay, I always see commercials about not smoking pot. Honestly, every time I see them I just laugh. They are so stupid and ridiculous! Yes weed is bad but compared to other drugs out there, it's practically harmless. Where I live, meth is a really big problem, I know so many people who ruined their lives because of it, including one of my best friends from childhood! I feel that "anti-drug" ads should focus more on that.

For example, there is one commerical where a grandmother is sitting at a table with two place settings. The narrator says "Just tell your grandmother you missed lunch cause you were smoking weed, she'll understand."

I personally feel a commercial that said "Just tell your grandmother you missed lunch cause you overdosed on meth, she'll understand." Or something to that extent anyway. A commerical like that would actually speak to me!

Even people I know who have never even smoked weed think that "anti-pot" commercials are stupid! What do you think? Do you think they are really getting a message across or do you think they are just a joke?

they make me giggle.... because they are rediculous.... most of the stuff they protray happening doesn't happen from justsmoking weed, only heavier drugs like meth, and popping pills and stuff.

Watching a commercial isn't going to keep your kids from smoking pot... if that was true... there wouldn't be any potheads... because they all watch TV.

They are just a joke to me. They are unrealistic and make me laugh. The way that they potray people in the commericals are not like people that smoke pot. Saying that they were so high they don't remember the night before.
Personally, I agree with you. Why not concentrate on more serious drugs? Meth, coke, x. Those are the drugs that really mess people up.

i think they're good, but i would also liek to see more commercials for other drugs besides pot, because i agree, there's worse things kids could be doing. but i assume they do pot mostly because it's liek the gateway drug, not many people try meth or coke before weed. but they used to have a meth commercial, it was sad. there was a lady cooking meth in the basement and it showed a little girl playing upstairs abover her and it said something like "you're not the only one affected by meth". methseems sooo nasty, i cant even imagine ever getting into it.

I agree somewhat. Meth is really bad around here, too. I've tried weed a few times, never really been fond of it, but I don't have a problem with it. However, pot usually leads to other things. Once you try it, you may say, This does this, so I wonder what that will do!? A lot of people start out on weed and progress... Maybe they are trying to "nip it in the bud" before the crackheads get started. But I also agree that the commercials are a bit rediculous. Straight weed really isn't all that dangerous... Alcohol is worse.

Yeah I agree..they're not making their point cuz it's just so ridiculous the stuff they say....it's good that they're trying to make a difference but they should get some stoners and make some real situations cuz the ones they put on commercials just make it look like they've nevrer actually tried it lol

I agree.

And maybe they focus on marijuana because it is considered the "gateway" drug? (I am not debating whether or not this is true, I really dont care, but that is what they say)

Yes I think alot of the time pot is the gate way drug. I just feel the commericals need to be heavier and more realistic!

if you make it heavier and more realistic, then it wouldnt be targeted at kids... it would have more of an adult vibe....

Ok, I'm sorry from what you first said it seemed like you were just going to rely on the commercials! lol, but I understand that if you talk to them and stuff that will help too. I understand, I just think the commercials are stupid. Besides, if my son really wants to know what pot or alcohol or ciggarettes do to people I'll just take him to meet his grandparents. That should be deterent enough combined with me and my husband talking with him about it.

Well there was one meth commercial targeted at teenagers that honestly scared the shit out of me, I covered my eyes everytime I saw it haha. If I hadn't tried drugs before that, after seeing it I never would have.

The pot commercials that I have seen basically say "if you smoke pot you will be lazy..." and that's it!! They don't focus on pot possibly leading to harder drugs or other serious issues! Maybe the ones you have seen are different and better but the ones I have seen are a total joke

but by the time they are teens... they are probably are already smoking pot or experimenting with it... I want commericals to be geared towards my 7 year old... and my 9 year old... i think intervention should be done then.. not when they are teens
