Because alot of teen's get pregnant because they think it's cool and they don't think about there education first.

The answer is apparent..teens arent usualy prepared to care for a baby.

I think it is just because not all teens are ready to be parents. Some do great and people should look at them for parenting examples...but the health risks and federal $$ is probably what the whole hopla is all about. Plus itcan be a lotharder to stay in school and go to college.

Because kids think its cool and it isnt. Teens shouldnt be trying to get pregnant or be encouraged to have kids. And that is whats happening. Its sad and unfortunate.

im a teen parent & i would have to agree. I think way too many young girls are going out today & purposely trying to get pregnant. Its hard & they dont realize that until after the fact. I am in college & have been for two years, i work full time & live with my boyfriend. But it is still really hard. Alot of girls dontthink aboutthat, they just think its cool.

*edited*- I did not try to get pregnant, i was on birth control, but things do happen. I believe I am one of the few cases where being a teen parent hasnt turned out bad.

But, thats part of the problem. "Sarah" is 16 and she is a steller mom... so, teens get all enthused like they can do it too and go out TRYING to get pregnant. Sometimes too much encouragement is counterproductive.

The numbers have honestly doubled, if not tripled in the last few years in the ages 15-20. I'm a teen mom, and other then one other girl, I've never seen anyone where I live pregnant that was a teenager. In Calgary though, it seems every 15-16 year old has a baby, it is crazy!

back in the old days, when people only lived to be 35,and women were only good for breeding, there was no problem with knocking yourself up at13 or 14-it would be like getting pregnant at 35 today.
In the modern world, where we have so many opportunities to make great lives for ourselves, and have such an easy time controlling birth,it just seems odd that so many young girls choose to take such a hard path-a path which in some cases leads to overuse of welfare, and neglect of childen.
I'm not saying ALL teen parents fit into this-if you are a teen parent and are reading this, you obviously give enough of a damn to educate yourslef on children, etc, and therefore I am not referring to you.

So you are saying that since I'm 16 and preg. I did it on purpose because I thought it was "cool"???? I dont think so. Yes, a lot of teens are getting preg. but does that mean we're going to be bad parents? No. I may be 16 but I'm finishing my education thank you and I'm not looking to be supported by my family or the govnt'. We are human, we make mistakes but that doesnt mean we are any lower then an adult who gets preg. out of wed-lock.

One of myfriend's sister (15) thought she was pregnant and she was going on how she was going to dress her baby in this and that and then it ended up that she wasn't even pregnant. I think some teens think of babiesas accessories not as responsibilities.

Dont get all defensive - no one here is saying teens cant be good parents. No one. I hate that there can never be a mature discussion about teen pregnancy because there are always the teens that get uber offended over generalizations that are mostly true. She said A LOT, she did not say ALL.

I not as young as you but i know what your saying. My parents freaked because they thought i was not going to finish college & i was going to work at McDonalds. But here i am, still in college with all A's, working full time, & taking care of my son & bf. Its hard but i think if you have the drive to do it & support you can. I commend you for staying in school.
