Does your mom have an established relationship wit your niece? its hard missing the birthdays and holidays and watching her grow up...I have never heard of the grandparent law so hopefully you and your family will have better luck that we had times have changed since he gave up his rights...good luck to you and your family best of luck your way  

I just glanced at Texas laws.. Seems she may have a shot there too.. Your mom should talk to someone in Family court and see if it's something she can do.

My brother hasn't been allowed around his 2 sons for the most part since him and his ex split 10 years ago, they have no formal arrangement but he has had some legal issues and can't file anything so what she says goes. My mom and I have managed to maintain a good relationship with her and I see my nephews now on a very regular basis, she's has always allowed us a relationship even after remarrying and having 2 more kids. We've been invited to communions, confirmations, school plays .. Hopefully you'll luck out and she won't be as big of a bitch as you think she might become! Best of luck

Thanks hun..I REALLY hope so! I love her so much! And I really want my kids to know her- they skype sometimes... lol.it's cute.

When my mom and us had a falling out last year she threatened to go for grandparental rights. In WI a court will only grant them if 1. The parents are divorced or 2. One or both of the parents are deceased. Are they here in WI is back in TX. Either way, is suggest looking into the states specific laws on it.

Sorry, fail on me. I didn't read far enough. :/ I hope your moms able to get some good news through the courts. Even if they say she can visit, its not set in stone and who's to say she doesn't drive the 5 hours and they won't answer the door or her calls.

There are too many laws regarding this. Who are people to decide what God has already decided. Children are born into a village of peoples whom all have roles in that child's life. Why should anyone be allowed to make choices on who a child should be allowed to see when that was already decided at conception?
