Kid ate a plastic spoon

posted 1st May '12
Okay, so now I'm posting since Pedi hasn't called back and I've been venting in another thread... ANYWAY
On the way home from therapy I got my kids frosty's from Wendy's and when we got home, about 1/3 of the scooping part of the spoon was chewed and swallowed by my SN 2.5 year old son. He is acting fine and all. But that can't be good for his intestines or when he goes to poop. Should I take him to the ER?

I would if it were my child. Plastic can get sharp and the last thing you want is the plastic to cut up his stomach/intestines/etc.

I don't think a white spoon would show up on an X-ray...

My kid does stuff like that constantly. Oneday she ate an entire tulip plant..he's probably fine but you could get an xray if you're scared.

The nurse just called as I was changing diapers and said, it should pass on it's own and unless he seems like he's in discomfort to check his stools until Friday and if nothing passes to make an appt. But, stomach acid is strong and it could dissolve the plastic. She's seen kids swallow needles and pass just fine. So I guess we'll just wait it out.
