Sharp vagina and lower abdomen pain.

posted 1st May '12
I'm 38 weeks 6 days..
I know that it's normal to have pain from pressure after the baby drops... but in your lower stomach as well??
It hurts bad when I stand up or walk around. Sitting is the only time it doesn't hurt. Is this normal?

I have the sharp pains in my vagina all the time, I think it may be the cervix thinning and dilating....I also get the lower abdominal pain it could be the weight of the baby on your muscles

Gee this sounds like me, I'm 33wks and have been feeling the pressure for about 2 months! I feel like someone has whacked me between my legs with a bat. It seems to be round ligament pain we are suffering from. Wow! You are almost there! I also get the sharp stabbing pains in my vagina and when our little one is moving, it sometimes feels like my water is about to break with the pressure. I was in tears last night due to the pain. Just try everything you can do to get comfy. All the best

You must be carrying very low!
It's worth the pain though

I am so ready. Tomorrow I'll be 39 weeks & Hopefully he isn't overdue.

I'm 37 weeks, and I've also been experiencing the sharp shooting pains in my lower abdomen and vagina, and its really uncomfortable. I've only had a few contractions that weren't close together, but days apart which are probably braxton hicks. I was told that baby is head down and in position. Its uncomfortable to sleep at night, with me getting up constantly and not finding a comfy spot to sleep. I've read articles that this could mean dilation and labor coming close, does anyone else have any advice or any idea of what this can mean?

I am 33 weeks tomorrow, and I have been experiencing this since last night. It is the worst when I'm up and walking around, bending over, squatting, or worse yet when I have to go pee. I have increased pressure with how low I'm carrying and the OB confirmed last Friday that baby's head is down and in position. I'm not anywhere near giving birth, but he's going to be in a prime spot once he drops. I was debating going to the OB-Triage at our hospital tonight, but if this is such a common isue, then I will stay home and take it as another joy of pregnancy!   I'm patiently (or not so patiently, lol  ) waiting our little guy's arrival...

Don't read everything you read lol...especially if its the Internet. I made the same mistakes when I was pregnant. Those "Shooting pains" is known as "lightning crotch" basically means the baby is hitting/laying on the sciatic nerve. Totally normal in pregnancy and doesn't mean you'll go into labor soon. If you do by chance, it isn't because of that.

According to my OB, this is ABSOLUTELY normal; especially in second or consecutive pregnancies. My OB says that the signs of early labor are this: Contractions that are consistent (length of time, and how frequent), increased urge to urinate, and/or rupture of your bag of waters. The time to be concerned with this type of pain and you're NOT in labor is if any of the following occur: intestinal cramping for more than one hour, with or without diarrhea, sharp pains that last for more than one hour (constant, not coming and going), vaginal bleeding, or severe vomiting that isn't controlled. Then and only then, should you go get checked out.
