Sleeping habits for 6 week old

posted 29th Apr
I know my son wasn't super premature.....only 4 weeks, but he isn't sleeping well. He is 6 weeks old and still up every 2 to 3 hrs at night to feed. Someone told me that his nervous system may only be as mature as a 2 to 3 week old since he was 4 weeks early.....anyone ever heard this?

I need some serious zzzzzz's.....hehe.

Anyone else with a "term" 6 weeker still having sleeping habit troubles?

My son was three weeks and four days early. He's now a little over 11 weeks. He still wakes up every three hours or so. Some days (or nights rather) he'll give me a break and let me sleep a little longer. I think mine has more to do with the fact that he is breastfed. Breast milk is easier to digest than formula, so it goes right through them and my son hates to miss a feeding, lol (he's 13.5 lbs and will be 3 months on the 9th of next month).

My son doesn't like to miss a feeding either....and he's formula fed.

Lol! His peditrician asked me if I was still exclusively breast feeding him. When I told him yes, he told me he was amazed at his weight gain. When he was born he weighed 6lbs 2oz. He went down to 5lbs 13oz in the first week. Since then, he has more than doubled his weight. He's a piggy.

My babies have always been incredible sleepers - I've always assumed it was because they were premature! I would call and ask your doc how long your baby can go without a feed and then shoot for that. I would wake my baby up around 9 and play with him for as long as he could stay happily awake and then I would feed him and put him back to sleep. Do you have a bed time routine? If not I would also start that so your baby can start to associate certain things with bed time. Good luck!

I was three days overdue with my daughter, and at 6 weeks, she still woke up a couple times a night to eat. Now that she's 3 months, though, she's sleeping through the night! She's actually been sleeping through the night since about 2 months. And she's formula-fed, too.

I know it sucks to hear, but give it time...it'll get better!

My son woke up every 3 hours like clockwork until he was 8 weeks old, and he was 11 days late, lol. Now he's finally sleeping for 6 hours at night. He's 10 weeks old now.
