Hi

Anything that helps you with getting your daughter okay with the bathing? We've tried lots of things but I'm open to hearing anything that can help. His last couple showers weren't terrible but I hate to get my hopes up, kwim? I know even a little bit is progress but his water fear is also nowhere near over yet.

hi ladies. i have a quick question.

My daughter starts her OT on monday but I'm just exhausted and i don't know what to do at this point. Like i said before, my daughter had her tonsils out last monday and its hard enough on a 2.5 yr old let alone one that has SPD.

Well she hasn't been doing good at all. Over the past 2 days her meltdowns are beyond horrible. i can normally get her to come down from a meltdown esp because i know what caused it. With being on pain meds and having so much change in the last week i couldn't even tell you why she's flipping out. now. Its lasting 30-45 min and I've tried everything to help her. Its to the point i just let her g, but she comes and sits in front of me and flips out (like she wants me to help or do something). She won't let me touch her, talk to her, give her the things the normally help her.

Today she flipped out for 40 min and just kept saying "i can't help it". Its breaking my heart that i cannot help my own child. She finally calmed down and went to sleep around 8 only to wake up flipping out again around 930.

I'm just lost right now. Its been the longest week with 3 visits back to the ER.

Any advice?

She can sit in the water with toys. But when i go to touch her youd think i was slicing her open or something. Its at the point all I can do is wash her up as quickly as i can while she screams.. I feel bad but she HAS to be bathed.

Have you tried swaddling her with her arms out for a few minutes or letting her run around in a tight bathing suite?

Hopefully once things calm down the meltdowns will slow down. I dont know that there is much you can do really. If you dont know what it is then you cant try to steer clear and keep them from starting and you cant help stop them. A lot of the time Faith says she doesnt want to be touched but it helps her if i hold her tight. lots of pressure, try to massage or rub her. Give her some extra input while shes freaking out. but i can only do that when she's stopped just screaming and is crying/screaming mixed. Its hard to explain, i've just learned to recognize that instant where I can jump in. I would get ahold of a developmental pediatrician to see if they have ideas.

I know what you mean. That's what I just do... bathe/wash him through the screaming. I guess there really isn't any tricks. It's just get through it as fast but thorough as possible.

I feel like crying. DD has been in trouble at school for not listening, talking too much and not staying seated. She knows what she is supposed to do and comes home with "bad" reports daily.

Back ground story: She is going into kindergarten, but last year she was in preschool. Her anxiety was so much that she refused to talk to anyone. She had no friends. Wouldn't follow any directions at all.

Now, she is in summer school going into kindergarten in the end of august, now she won't stop talking, has a lot of friends and is refusing to do the work at all.

This is just a vent, I guess. I really have no idea what to do anymore. I've tried positive reinforcement. I've tried taking away privileges. I've tried a combo of both. ..... :screams:

How is everyone doing? What positive things are happening with our children?

I'm working on getting donations from friends and family to help get Faith school a new pedal race car. So far it is looking pretty good. Really warms my heart to have people help Faith and her friends.

The tenex is also working wonders for Faith and she is really excelling in her therapy because of it which makes me one happy mama.

Hey

Nothing really new here. Summer school, OT and positive reinforcement is really our life.... along with play dates and as much social exposure I can get her into as possible...

My son is starting to get a little better at times with the water. He starts his SN school on the 27th! He's getting the teacher we wanted him to get and there are great therapists there as well. It'll be an adjustment for all of us but I know this will be so good for him.
