The brush protocol therapy is amazing. That was the first thing the therapist taught us. The second was parental shoulder ball therapy. (Taking two small balls and rolling them on his shoulders) OMG a total difference in his demeanor. He is really aggressive when approached without notice. He has hurt many people including myself when touched without his knowledge. He can not talk at all. He shakes his head no all the time and we have taught him a few signs for him to use as a form of communicating with us. He has learned thank you, more, need, want, drink, and eat but only uses want and more the majority of the time.
They just started a music therapy with him to try and melt his touch barriers but without success at this time. But at least he loves to dance.
His grandparents built him a sandbox in our back yard for his birthday and it has been amazing for him. He actually likes the feel of the sand on his body and he will sit there for hours just rolling or feeling the sand.

It took over a year to get faith to let us touch her with it. We did try to let her brush us and herself but she couldnt do it so we put it away for a few months, focused on other big things and then tried again. If all he is doing is biting it then he's not ready. I'd put it away for at least a couple weeks and bring it out again. DONT FORCE IT. Faith was very similar in being delayed everywhere and shes almost 4.5 and just now letting us try it.

I was going to say the same. He may still be too young for it.

Speech is huge. Mine has a few words. No, Mama, Dada, bu bu (bye bye) hi and that's about it. He's been panting for dog and using some signs. Right now we are waiting for his appt with the AAC specialists and his eval to get him a communication device. His SLP isn't confident that he will be an intelligible verbal speaker.
Have you tried the seat pad like this?

haha sleep is a MAJOR issue over here. Faith has to take melatonin nightly and even then wakes up after 6/7 hours then spends the day melting down over no smurfing sleep. Its making me rather insane. And not with her i feel horrible for her.. im just fried.

They use them at school but i dont have one for at home. They haven't recommended it for Faith specifically and i've never really thought to ask. Faith had 3 words at 24 months. and as of now my 2 year old has double the vocabulary that she does.

Im so glad you had a good result with the brushing. I havent heard of the balls, I am going to have to ask Sara about it. I can't imagine not really having any communication. Thats gotta just bottle up SO much for him. Good that he has at least some basic communication down. faith loves sand. we got a membership to OMSI because they have a huge sand area. She could sit there and play ALL day.

I don't force anything. Because I want him to be open to the idea and not have a traumatic memory from an item, ect. if you know what I mean. We've tried the swing for a year at therapy to no avail. But now he loves the one at home we finally got. Everything is on his terms or no terms.

Try melatonin. Dr said faith can have up to 3mg, they have chewable. She was 42lbs when the dr said up to 3mg. 1-3.

I officially love you!

I always tell people not to force because you know how many do. Dont take the time to learn about it or address that theirs an issue. Or ignore their kids needs...

My other son had a few words and sounds at 2. He's 4 and still in speech but grown in leaps and bounds. My 7 month old makes more sounds than this LO did at 2. It's hard.

The none communication thing really makes me cry a lot because I never know exactly what he really wants. He can sign "want drink" but what to give him? I have to guess and by the time I actually give him what he wanted he is so frustrated with me he is balling his eyes out. I mean no words just grunts, growls and screaming grrrr It gets very frustrating.

Have you tried pecs? I have food we have on hand, that he can have whenever laminated and velcrod around the kitchen. The frustration in the kitchen has come down tons. Milk, juice, water, pop when we have a party, different fruits and veggies, cereal, yogurt, granola, pudding, jello etc..
