Should alcohol be legal?

re: Should alcohol be legal?

I don't think my government has any right to tell me what I can and can't do. Whether it be alchohol, drugs, ect.

Yes, it should remain legal, because making it illegal is going to cause more problems than it is already causing now.

I like to have a margarita (when I'm not pregnant) with dinner every now and then. The problem is not use, but abuse. And that needs to be taken care of on its own terms, not by banning the substance but by meting out royal ass kickings to people that do stupid things as a result.

Banning alcohol is not going to prevent drunk driving or public intoxication or alcoholism. It will, however, create a thriving underground market for bootleggers and drive crime and prices up.

I think if alcohol is banned then everything else that is bad for you should be as well. There are those who can control there drinking and there are those who can't. But with most things in life, it's about control. There are some health benefits with alcohol. It can lower your risk of coronary heart disease. Not saying you sould be an alcoholic, too much of anythng is bad for you. People choose everyday to either take part in something that is bad for them. But if you ban alcohol, then there will be a rise in home made and that isn't regulated.

We tried this once before and bootlegging arose if you remember. Not a good era. Also it is only a disease for those who let it become one. In countries where there is no drinking age it is not nearly as abused. However america only legalizes it once you become of the age and then people go ona rampage to sort of make up for the lost years. There are enough rules in place to help alleviate or lessen the crimes and out of norms committed when drinking. I think if anything the drinking age should be reduced.

I think if it wasn't such a novelty for high school and college age kids, they wouldn't abuse it so much. I don't think kids this age need to drink, but I do think that lowering the age to say, 18, would help the problem. But then would it make 16 year olds anxious to drink? I'm not sure. It's a toughy, but I still think lowering the age would alleviate some of the abuse. A lot of the abuse maybe.

I think the penalties for drunk driving should be increased. I remember reading someplace about a country that beheads their drunk drivers, and they dont have a problem at all with drunk driving.

Are you certain they behead? I am pretty sure that is illegal everywhere and places that turn their head (no pun intended) on it probably aren't driving anyways...

i would really life to see breathalizers on ALL vehicles. and so would many people, especially drinkers! me and adam drink. we've both gotten behind the wheel when we shouldn't have because the alcohol made us think we were actually fine. i don't know how many times i've been hanging out with friends thinking i wasn't drunk at all when i really was. i would love for my car not to start if i had too much to drink. and i'm sure most people sitting in jail for intoxication manslauter would have loved to have that as well. and the families of victims. i hope we get there some day!

I really don't know what gives drunk people the idea that they have the right to get behind the wheel when they could be taking another human being or beings life away. Being under the influence is no excuse.

you're right, it is no excuse. but alcohol impairs your thinking, thats why it happens so much. drunk people not realizing they're drunk, or drunk people who think they actually drive better drunk, or drunk people who just aren't thinking. it sucks. and it is their fault, no doubt. but they aren't in their normal right mind and aren't making the responsible choice that they easilly know they should make while sober

Yes, and it is really too bad. Something really needs to be done to enforce stricter laws. Maybe even bars should have a breathalizer test at the door before you leave and if you're too drunk to drive, it could automatically call a cab for you or something or alert the bar tender to try and stop the person from making a possible giant mistake.

hey thats a neat idea!

it wouldn't cover people drinking on their own though. but hey if they did that AND had them on everyone's cars i bet drunk driving fatalaties would go down so low. its would be awesome!

i worked at a bar that calls cabs for you if you had too much to drink (but so many people are great at looking sober!) but they don't offer to pay it unless you tell them you have no money or credit cards and are going to drive home. so much has to happen before they offer, but they will pay for it to cover their asses from a lawsuit. i bet a lot of bars would do the same but people don't really try i guess.
