True it could clean things up. I only wonder about those in the young experimental stage though who do not know the outcomes or severity of what they are doing.

I agree - depression is a very misunderstood disease. It not only affects the person, but the family, friends, co-workers, etc. Its debilitating. Good for you for being so open about it - I think that's awesome, and I hope your medicine gives you the balance you need. I have like 2984329384 friends with bi-polarism, a best friend who is a clinical psychologist, a husband who is a recovering alcoholic, and a mom who suffers from anxiety...so I do my best to try to understand as much as I can about these things!

my mother was also diagnosed with schizophrenia and both my mom and step dad are in the mental health feild. I believe my breaking point was the adoption of my 1st son

Well, if it was regulated the same as tobacco and alcohol, they wouldn't be able to get it legally before they were considered adult, and if they're getting it ilegally underage, that's no different than how it is now.

I totally think alcohol should be illegal. Obviously it ruins lives, usually theinnocent lives of unsuspecting drivers (the drunk always seems to walk away from an accident). Personally,I thinkalcohol and drug abuse is a sign of weakness. People these days aren't taught to cope withdifficulties in life in healthy ways, so they justturn toalcohol and drugs to make it all better. If people would just grow some balls and learn to deal withthings properly, they wouldn't need alcohol or drugs....

so how do you propose we 'grow some balls'?

I just think people need to be more realistic about their expectations in life. It's not always flowers and picnics, sometimes things get hard and you have to know how to get through the tough times.... relying on other substances, like alcohol, only worsens things. I have my own personal experiences that make me wish alcohol was illegal, but I know realistically that prohibition, again, would never work, and there are many people, like myself, who are responsible with alcohol and shouldn't be punished...

Do you think that making it illegal will stop people from drinking?

What benefits do you propose would arise from making drinking illegal, as it's not going to stop it from happening?

absolutely not, people who are THAT determined to get it are gonna get it... My brother is an alcoholic. He's 26, so he's perfectly legal. He's totalled 5 cars, gotten 2 DUI's, can't keep a job, and I had to keep him from committing suicide in a drunken stuporon more than one occasion... I just know that as long as alcohol is legal, people like him will continue to drink and continue to get on the roads and endanger everyone else. If it was illegal, then maybe he wouldn't be able to access it as easily, or maybe there would be harsher punishments for violations instead of the mere probation and fines that come with DUI's.... And I know it would be unfair to make it illegal, like I said, there are many people who drink responsibly and shouldn't have to pay for those who can't control themselves, but if even just a few lives could be saved by keeping drunks off the roads, then I think it's worth it.....

Yes, everyone goes through rough patches.. as the saying goes 'someone always has it worse off than you' but some also have mental illness to accompany that. So do you think that it should be banned from all then since some cannnot control thier intake?

no, not really. I'm really just having some wishful thinking... like, I wish it could happen, but I know it never will. The best solution would just be if people would learn to control themselves... but that'll never happen either...

I can agree that punishments for drunk driving should be more severe.
