Which birth control?

posted 26th Apr '12
I just had my DD 4 weeks ago and im trying to figure out which birth control to get on. I cant swallow pills so those are out and i dont want the shot. I was thinking maybe an IUD or the Nuvaring but im still not sure. What do you think and what are your options on birth controls?

p.s. yes im sure i cant swallow pills ive tried every kind of way.

I would do more research nuvaring has estrogen which is not allowed when bfing. Straight from their website

Do not breastfeed while using NuvaRing. Some of the medicine may pass through the milk to the baby and could cause yellowing of the skin (jaundice) and breast enlargement in your baby. NuvaRing could also decrease the amount and quality of your breast milk.

You're welcome I spent a very long time researching birth control. While you are nursing your options are

IUD (mirena or paraguard)
I personally hated mirena i gained weight like crazy and was a hormonal bitch im surprised my marriage survived it.
The paraguard is great if you dont need/want any hormones and its good for 10 years.

Implanon- good for 3 years implanted into your arm. I have no personal experience with this but havent heard near the horror stories that I have with mirena.

Mini-pill- obviously not for you

Depo- one shot every 3 months (this is what im currently on) I have had no side effects that I know of. I am maintaing my weight. Although it can cause a calcium deficiency and cause bone loss so its not recommended that anyone take it for longer than two years and my doctor told me to take a calcium supplement with it.

Condoms and natural family planning as well.

I loved the IUD mirena, I had it in for 5 years. I'm getting another one after I have my baby.

I had the mirena and i absolutely hated it. I have weight gain problems as is so it didnt effect my weight, but I would faint alot when I was walking. My doctor doesnt believe it was a side affect from the Mirena but i firmly do (since ive had it out, i havent fainted). I also had a TON of hair loss, crazy ass hormones, constantly felt tired. It made me cramp extremely bad and when i bleed, it was worse than the bleeding after I had my son...
I now have the depo shot (again) but would like something more long term. I have some issues with mood swings & camping with this shot but not near as bad as i did with the mirena.
Im glad you posted this because i really dont have much time to research other IUDS/BC methods so maybe this will aslo help me out!
