student loan/financial aid and buying a car

posted 24th Apr '12
This is going to sound completely ridiculous. I've heard of people doing this and I'm wondering how true it is.

I've heard of people using their grants and student loans for other things other than just classes. I'm figuring all my classes cost a certain amount, and I have like 3 grand left over is it true I could just buy a car?

If not I'm totally cool with working this job and doing what I have to do, but I'm sick of hearing it and arguing with people on why i cant

You get that loan check, cash it, and do what you want with it.

Think of it this way... you will have to pay the loan back in the end...so why not. You have to get to school and work...

I bought my first car with the remainder from my financial aid. I paid my rent for the semester and worked to pay utilities and groceries.

I'm pretty sure thats what those grants are for. My husband has student loans and a full on Pell Grant. Most of the grant does go to paying for the class but we get some back twice a year and we use it to get ahead on bills and buy things we need.

NO, you dummies!!! You CAN'T. That's about the most unethical thing I've heard of!!! Ask your question on the government's website! As a matter of fact, I'll cut and past and forward it for you!
