jaundice

posted 27th Apr
McKenzie has jaundice and spent most of her time under the lights while in the hospital. We are supposed to do sun therapy at home but it is really dark and the sun is barely out. I have a appointment on Monday morning for them to check her levels again. If anyone has experienced this did your babies biliruben points really jump up after taking them home? Her skin still seems to be a pinkish color but I can't help but worry.

Even if its not 'sunny' take her out , the sun is there.
Vitamin D drops too , they help.

It doesnt matter if it's sunny or not. My daughter was full-term but, had Jaundice her level was 12.5 and she had to stay for 2 days. I kept her in her swing by an open window even though it was sunny, it was day light so she got some sun.

=) I never had a problem with it either.

My son was also full term (now 15 days) andhad jaundice. When we left the hospital his level was 10.5, then the next day when we took him to the pedi to check it it was 15. We were also told to do sun therapy, but it was too cold to be able to take him outside with his skin exposed, so we too put him in his swing by awindow, but there wasn't really any sunlight coming through. The next day we took him for another check and his level dropped to 14.5. A week later it was gone. Just make sure that she eats frequently (we were told every 2 hrs) to help flush it out of her system.

P.S. Tristan never spent any time under the lights, and we didn't get a bili blanket either, so it resolved itself, but it did take a few days.

My first son was born with jaundice, which they didnt catch in the hospital. I took him in when he was 3 days old and they gave me the bili blanket and after two days he was all better

hi i my daughter had jaundice when we were in the hospital but it wasn't bad, but after we took her home she starte dto get yellow but lucky we had a appointment the next day. we took her to see the doctor and we did all the test after that we went home and couple hours goes by and the doctor called us telling us we have to go to the emergency room right now. when we got there theya sk us all these question i was really scared they did the test and they said it was higher then what they recommend safe it was somewhere around low 20 we stayed in the hospital for 24hrs it was so sad seeing her under the blue light thing i actualy cried a couple time thinking what would happen if we didnt find out sooner. All they said was keep her near the light or sun but we barley have sun in seattle around november but her jaundice got better she is a healthy baby now.

I know how you feel. It completely broke my heart being in the hospital and seeing all the other moms get their babies and I was only allowed mine to feed her every three hours for thirty minutes. We took her today and her levels had jumped up to a 17 but she did put on some weight which is a good thing. I am a emotional wreck because I am the kind of person who always has to have a answer and with this there is no answer of when she will get better. Today she is just wanting to sleep and I am having to wake her to feed her. She has no desire to eat and maybe it is because my breast milk has come in and she isn't used to it yet. She isn't having as many bms or wet diapers as yesterday either. I wish there was something else I could do!!

My son cane home with jaundice which I was never told he even had I guess since his levels weren't too high. They gave me an appointment when I left the hospital that I thought was because of his intestines but little did I know. His appointment was  2.5 weeks after he left the hospital. Anyway they did blood work and his levels were still kind of up so they put him on ursol and his been on that for about a month now. You can't even tell he has jaundice the only reason they know is because of the blood work.

DS had jaundice over 6 weeks, the consultant called it pathological jaundice. His levels constantly went up and down. I think the ladies have given good advice, lots of feeds to flush his system and vit-d. Sometimes it just takes their system a lil while to catch up, i hope it goes away soon

You should be able to find them at any pharmacy or drug store. I would check with your pedi to know how much to give her.
