Well, I will admit that I am a germaphobe (sp)...I use sanitizer and wash my hands constantly. I wash his nuks and nipples all the time, but I also know that he needs to be around germs to get a good immune system. So I try not to freak out too much. I only had people wash their hands before holding him for the first week.

I honestly don't see the big deal unless there is a medical reason. Your child cannot become immune to germs unless they're exposed to them. I don't care if people touch Will, and ALOT of people have touched Will. Doesn't bother me, doesn't bother him and Will has never been sick.

I did that the first week with all of my kids. And continued it with anyone who smoked. There is a fine line between being paranoid and caring for your child's health.

Yep. My kids have only been sick a handful of times. But getting sick is a natural thing in life and actually helps build the immune system. Relax, ladies!

oh well I was trying to be helpful since I saw something on here the other day and somebody was looking for one. I could be wrong. I know they need to be exposed to germs and germs are everywhere but your hands touch everything and all the things you can get from that bothers me.

You're going to need to relax. The fact is, you aren't going to be able to control their environment no matter how much you try. Touching them with otherwise "dirty" hands is not going to cause any harm and I believe it's rude, too, if I see signs saying "go not touch." Your child is not a fragile piece of glass artwork. It's a baby and someday that baby is going to be stockfull of germs, illness, and all kinds of unimaginable things.

aren't you going to let your kid play in the dirt? That is pretty dirty. Kids are germ ridden little boogers! They are going to get dirty and yucky.

Ive been around children my whole life and worked in daycare I know they have germs and are exposed to them and it builds their immune system. But them getting some awful sickness that could have prevented by someone just washing their hands or keeping their hands off the kid. Quite frankly its not their child they shouldn't touch them unless they personally know you and have asked permission.
