Breastfed one year old waking 2-3 times harmful?

posted 18th Apr '12
I already posted this but only got one response. How often did/does your breastfed one year old wake up through the night? We co-sleep and my son still wakes up every 2-3 hours usually. I've tried to get him in his crib but he screams bloody murder and I won't let him CIO. I honestly really don't mind getting up with him throughout the night but his nurse practicioner seems to think he would benefit from getting better, more uninterrupted sleep. He isn't grumpy during the day unless he's teething. Am I causing more harm then good enabling him? Please tell me I am not alone!!

My DD is 15.5 months old and she still wakes up that much too, and we co sleep. Doctor says if everyone is happy it's good and don't change it until someone is unhappy with the arrangement. You guys are fine momma.

I read this and thought your title said "walking" not waking.

Confused me for sec there.

Are you trying to get him sleeping in his crib?
How fully does he wake for feedings?

Perhaps you should attempt nighttime weaning rather than switching him to the crib

My LO is 16 months. He wakes up more if he's in his bed. He goes to he's at 8:30-9 and wakes up at least 3 times a night unless I put him in bed with me. Totally normal. No need to change it unless you're not happy.

You don't just "break" a child from breastfeeding at one. They don't understand that just because they turned one they can no longer get milk from their mommy. Do you go with and believe everything society tells you?

I'm not really ready to have him in his room and he's not ready to be in there. Thank you for your response!

Yeah my doctor is a family practice doctor so she delivered my kids and it all of our PCP. I love her. She is right on the same page with me as far as the whole family's health care and parenting choices. When I had the my dd she told all the doctors and nurses on the maternity floor that her patients are educated on safe cosleeping so to please not try to convince them to move their babies to the bassinet. And she inculdes breastfeedin eduaction in every prenatal check up. Love her!!
