re: Stretchmarks???

posted 26th Apr
I got mine at about 20 weeks. Stretch marks also pop up as a genetic thing. If your mom, grandmom had 'em, you're more likely to, if they didn't, well, you're more likely not to.

Different methods to treat, prevent, and help them fade are...

Cocoa butter (everone's favorite)
Vitamine E oil (which helps give you elastisity in your skin again so they fade quicker)
Or, something call 'Preferon'. It looks like a glue stick, but you rub the stuff onto your stretch markes, and it helps 'em fade.

Unfortunately, to my knowledge, there's nothing that just gets -rid- of stretch marks. They 'heal' to a light 'silvery' color.

Ughh, I had a nightmare that I ended up being one of those middle aged women who are fake baking everyday and look burnt trying to cover their stretch marks. You know what I'm talking about, those women you just want to hand a skin cancer pamplet to.

I didn't get any until I was 34 weeks and my daughter dropped. Then I just got some on the lowest part of my belly. Once my milk came in after having her, my boobies were covered! They have faded a ton already!!

I've also got a tattoo on my hip/tummy area. It's pretty big too. But, it hasn't stretched out, faded, nothing. As a matter of fact, none of mine have. I have seven tattoos, three of them in vital 'watch' areas... The one on my right hip, I have another on my lower back, and another on my left boob.

I'm freaked out about stretch marks too!!
I'm into my 29th week and haven't seen any yet ..thank goodness ..I've been using cocoa butter like mad but ..my mother has stretch marks that are about an inch wide on her belly...I really really hope that I don't get them that badly!
On another note..my gf went her whole pregnancy w/o any except a tiny one by her belly ring and then after she delivered she got a few on each side of her belly..that was so not fair..she had made it that far already !

Before I got pregnant I was averaged sized for my height and age, and I think not being stick thin has helped me a lot with this pregnancy in avoiding stretchmarks...I am currently 34 weeks and only have one stretchmark on the left side of my tummy, but that is because my son likes to sit on my left hip, and has therefore he has stretched my skin out on that side...A lot of it has to do with genetics, but you can prevent a lot of damage by keeping your skin hydrated (another good reason why pregnant women should always be drinking water) and constantly using cocoa butter to help the skin grow...Other than that there isn't much else you can do to avoid them...

Mine actually didn't start showing until 32 weeks (I'm almost 37 weeks now). They aren’t too bad at the moment, but I sure keep lathering them up with cocoa butter as much as I can. Although, I've heard your can bath in that stuff and they still will never make them go completely away.
