Taking Baby home

My sons were born at 27 weeks about 5 weeks ago. I know that every baby is different but I am just wondering when other moms took their preemies home?

wow thats awesome... twins that early will most likely take a while to come home. just hink about it this way they wouldnt be home if they were still in the belly cause you would still be pregnant. you want them to be in the hospital for as long as they need to be..

Congrats on ur twins. Mine came 3 months early butwe are close to 6 months in hospital now. Im sure you've been told this already; They have to be breathing, holding their temp and feeding normally before going home. Sometimes they can go home with an apnoea monitor, oxygen and ng tube - but its not the 'norm'. Going home on their due date (singleton due date) is only a guide. Healthy preemies are usually allowed home way before their due date. If they both have no health problems other than prematurity, expect them home sometime after they are 35 weeks gestationally. Also, itsnot uncommon for oneto come home a lil while before the other. Hope ur all doing ok x

My son was born at 36 weeks and they let me take him home with in two days of him being born even though he was barely eating an ounce per meal.

I guess because thats nearly term. Although im glad our hospitals keep them in till they are fully ready, i think its kinda worrying/irresponsible to let them go home before they are ready. Although at 36 weeks with no issues, its fine knowing that mom can just watch milk intake at home. With a real preemie feeding is alot more important as they are so tiny and burn calories so easily.

I am also the mom of a 27 weeker and she was in the hospital for 8 and a half weeks (exactly 2 months). She just came home March 28.

Same with my daughter. How long did it take for him to start eating more? She usually eats about an ounce and a half to two ounces, usually about every three to four hours. But while we were in the hospital she was barely eating an ounce each feeding.
