Second time around

I had my little angel October 8 ,2009 after 5 days of strict bedrest, IV meds, blood tests and re-run after re-run of Golden Girls. He was 28 weeks gestation, born vaginally weighing 2 lbs 4.8 oz, 15 in long, and 10 in head circumfrence. I'm now pregnant with his little brother or sister and am very concerned. I was never given a difinative reason for such pre-term labor last time so my new OB is being very cautious. By cautious I mean progesterone shots every week from 16-36 weeks. My next appointment is April 20 and I will be 15 weeks. I am getting VERY anxious about the shots. Has anyone had them? Did you have side effects? Did it work?

I had them with my last baby. I still had her a 33 weeks. I didn't really have any side effects other then gaining a smurf ton of weight.

I was on various forms of progesterone with all of my 3 full term babies. I was on the shots with my middle baby. No real side effects from the shots since I already had a ton of progesterone running around my body from being pregnant. IMO, the progesterone shots were nothing in comparison to all of the other drugs i was on to stop labor.  

Summer: They had me on Magnesium Sulfate (Or sulfide maybe?) for 5 days. It made me sooo puffy! and they had to draw blood every hrs to make sure I wasn't getting magesium poisoning! irony. What was keeping my baby safely inside where he was supposed to be had the potential to kill us both!

I just stopped them a couple of weeks ago. No real side effects for me except, because I was getting them in my rear, the injection sites would blister like mosquito bites and itch and it would be really sore. Also, since they have to inject it into the muscles, my hips, butt, and legs would cramp up and I could barely walk. Then my doctor told me to try taking Vitamin D and Calcium to see if that would ease the pain. It worked AMAZINGLY for me. All I did was get the Minute Maid Orange Juice enriched with those vitamins. As long as I was drinking at least one small cup a day, I was fine.

Also, try asking your doctor about getting a cerclage. My story is about the same is yours, no answers. I'm now 35.4 wks.

yeah that stuff is evil. I was only on it the first time (stillbirth @23 weeks) for a little bit until my water broke. Last pregnancy though, i didn't get quite to the mag stage (but it was close). They tried me on terb, procardia, and indocin all on the same night. I felt like i was dying. My heart was racing. I was hot and dizzy. It was just no fun at all. It worked and everything calmed down, but whew ...

At this point, the nurses recognize me and the family (lol .. sigh) so at least they took real good care of us.
