Quitting cold turkey can be worse then light smoking. you are doing the right thing by cutting back, just keep doing so more and more.

Stress isn't an excuse really. I stopped a week after finding out I was pregnant. I've been stressed alot lately, but I haven't started back. Read some of the things smoking can do to the baby. Research it. Reading what smoking can do to my baby is what made me quit and stay quit.

When I was pregnant with my son I just couldn't quit either. I cut back to one cig a day but couldn't get myself to go an entire day without one. You aren't alone. Talk to your OB and see what he or she has to say about it.

I smoked with my first. He's healthy. Some Babies aren't though I was just lucky. It's not ideal but you know that and it's your choice if you continue to smoke or not.
It's good you've cut down though

Im a smoker

You know its not good for you, you know its worse for the baby. You know its not the stress, its your lack of skill to cope with your own stress. You also know its not 1970, and smoking while pregnant, smurf smoking ANYTIME is not sociably acceptable.

Not sure what you are looking for, but if you want me to say "Go ahead, smoke away", Im not an idiot, and dont take you for one either.

I smoked the entire pregnancy with my daughter. She's fine. 7.5 pounds 19" inches. Rather large baby for a girl 5'0 and normally 90 pounds. lol. I mean I'm not saying it's a good idea to smoke while your pregnant....but my 6 year old daughters just fine. lol

Smoking during pregnancy can cause low-birth weight, preterm delivery, and infant death.Smoking during pregnancy is estimated to account for 20 to 30 percent of low-birth weight babies, up to 14 percent of preterm deliveries, and about 10 percent of all infant deaths according to American Lung Association.

Why would you want to take the risk ? Sure ALOT of babies have turned out fine with smoking, but how do you know your gonna be that lucky ?

I smoked through a lot of my pregnancy with dude.
I had a really hard time quitting, but cigarettes became disgusting around 34 weeks.
I had no issues due to smoking with him. He was normal size and very healthy.

Of course issues could happen. They could also happen dude to quitting abruptly. Problems could come from anywhere.

What does your doc say about it?

Pregnancy can cause low-birth weight, preterm delivery, and infant death.

;) Just saying. Smoking isn't a good idea. But those things can happen regardless of smoking.

I smoked some while pregnant with my first. My son was born with heart problems. Pre-mature @ 3lbs. He had so many health problems. And while those may not be from smoking I still blame myself and live with the guilt of it everyday knowing that by me smoking I could have caused my son to have a heart condition, and he had to have a heart procedure at 5 weeks old. Im not saying smoking caused all of this because I dont know. But I do know that I live with the guilt of it and blaming myself. I vowed that when I get pregnant again I will NOT smoke during this pregnancy and will try to my best ability to make it as healthy as possible that way I know i gave it my all to make my baby healthy. I guess sometimes you have to have a child with health problems to understand. But I will do EVERYTHING in my power to keep this baby healthy. Trust me, it's NOT worth the risk.

Obviously. But why would you want to make it more of a risk ?

I am not bashing you or anyone for smoking,I've been there and done it. I'm just saying i've been there. & it's not worth the risk. It's a horrible feeling to think that you caused your child to have health problems.

I'm a heavy smoker but was able to quit with all three pregnancies. I had bad morning sickness though and the smell of smoke made me puke the 9 months. Started after each though. I know I'm an idiot lol.

My sister is also a heavy smoker. She was not able to quit while pregnant. She tried and tried but would get stress, anxiety attacks, palpitations. She spoke to her OB about it. He told her that for a heavy smoker it can be more dangerous for the pregnancy to quit cold turkey then to cut down. So she went from a pack a day to 4 cigs a day which is very good for her.

What helped her is that she made herself a schedule and only kept 4 cigarettes out for the day. On her schedule she had written the hour where she was aloud to smoke. Usually after meals because her cravings are worse then and right before bed. In between those hours she kept herself busy. Not sitting and obsessing about when the next hour will arrive made it easier.

You should talk to your OB about what your options could be depending on your health and pregnancy. There is no need to feel embarrassed about asking your doctor for help to have a healthier pregnancy. I'm sure he will be very understanding and that you wont be the first pregnant mom to be with a smoking addiction.

Good luck
