single teen moms

posted 12th Apr '12
I`m 19 and have a lot of friends with babies. Most of us are single. Just wondering how many of the teen moms out there are doing it alone.
It`s hard being a single mom let alone a young single mom.

I'm a single mother. I'm in a relationship with a wonderful man(not the father) who would love to be involved with the baby, but we've agreed that I will raise my daughter without his help unless things because serious between us.

What's the difference between you and a 23 year old single mom? I'm honestly just curious why so many younger moms always feel the need to post specifics. I don't feel that being a mom would be any easier if I weren't 18.. that's just me though.

mine would be much easier if i had waited. not to say that i dont love lo and al that jazz but if I was working instead of trying to finish a degree I would be in a better position. we have pay our mortgage and we own the car and we live better than a lot of people I know but I still feel like if i was working I would feel more stable. thats JMO and every person's sitation is different

I get that, but I mean not everyone who's older goes to college and such, you know? I feel like being a single mom would be hard no matter the age, sure there will be some differences in financial and educational situations but you'll find that with any age of moms. I know that SO and I are in a better spot financially than some "older" parents.

My big thing is that teen moms always say that age doesn't matter, and I feel like if they thought that were true they wouldn't make it seem like it does. KWIM?

I agree with this 100%
I said I would feel more stable.. but that's me. I was brought up to think that anything other than 2 university degrees was a failure. My mom had me at 18 and she still got a degree. I know Im conditioned but that is life lol

Oh yeah I completely understand.
My mom wanted me to go to college so bad, and I'm sure I would feel more accomplished if I had done so before I had a baby but smurf happens. Lol

16 and a single mom.
I have done everything without the father, haven't heard from him since I was 12 weeks pregnant.
But I agree I think all single moms struggle.
My mom is a 37 year old single mom and she struggles just as much as I do.

Well I find with most people being a teen mom does make a difference in a lot of aspects. I found one big struggle among my friends and I was the comments, and what people had to say about being pregnant young, not graduating. I graduated before I had my son, I got lucky with time and I got a great baby boy.
Some older parents struggle too, no doubt. But statistically speaking, it's more likely for a teen parent to end up below the poverty line later in life.

I'm definitely defiant of this statistic I'm sure many other teen moms are, too.

I found that a big problem with the teen moms I actually know...a lot of them have their moms taking care of their children, they party and do whatever they want they act as if they don't have a kid at home.
One girl, and I quote, on March break had plans to drink and party all week and some one commented "shouldn't you be with your son" she said "my mom said I could have the week off"

I think its horrible when ppl do that. It's like we understand your still young but that doesnt mean you cant take resposibility, i went to school with a girl who is now just about to graduate and she has 3 year old and she is, in my opinion, the best mom she can be at such a young age, she is lucky and her mom will watch her daughter or her daughters father will watch her and she was able to go to homecoming and football games and do normal teen stuff but she never went out and partied or went pretty much anywhere unless it was a school function and has always took care of her daughter. She is actually going to her senior prom tonight. My other friend had her daughter right before the start of our senior year and she did amazing juggling being a mom and raising Addy, she was with the father though and it helped that he was out of school and was working a really good job, she was able to find and pay for a babysitter even though she still missed a lot of school when she couldnt get a babysitter and she still managed to graduate with A's and B's, I just think it is so sorry that some girls "take advantage" of their parents kindness like that. I'm 18 almost 19 and pregnant with my son and my mom is wonderful but i would never in a million years take advantage of her like some teen moms do.

I know so many moms who party , and don't focus on school. I went to prom and grad in June and was due August fourth! I actually got a ride back and forth from school when I was put on bed rest after 27 weeks. I was just determined. I didn't have his dad around after he was 6 months and hes now 20 months. I still rarely get a sitter, and if I want to go out I wait until he goes to his dads for the weekend.

Exactly. I dont think these girls dont love their kids but i mean be a parent, I cant stand when girls just go back to normal life and dont take care of their kids, their mama's do.
