your babies nurse or take a bottle? They said babies cant suck, swallow and breath until 34 weeks. and they they dont even try bottle until 34 weeks. this is pretty much all I am waiting on for the most part for Bryson to come home. a few nurses have tried bottles and he has taken them. he does really well. I have also nursed him 2 times. just wondering if any of your babies got the eating down before 34 weeks and got sent home before 34 weeks?

I don't tend to go on what "they" say, because "they" is usually old ladies who swear by old wives tales.

I had my daughter at 34 weeks and she couldn't take a bottle at first. She was in the NICU for 2 weeks. I always heard they didn't really get the sucking, swallowing and breathing down good til about 36 weeks, but you can't really go by that. All babies are different so it just depends on your baby.

I was able to start putting DD to an empty breast at 32 weeks. From what I was told and have read, it's kind of something that a lot of babies start off slow but then it just all "clicks" and they start taking a lot more bottles everyday. It is also something that takes a lot of energy to do and if they don't gain weight then they aren't going to leave the nicu anyways.
It is somewhat of a process, but you really want them to do well and be able to not tire themselves out from taking every bottle. DD was doing awesome but started to wear herself out, she ended up aspirating and getting pneumonia the day before she was discharged. She ended up staying an extra 10 days. thank goodness we didn't bring her home before that.

My dd started breast feeding/bottle feeding at or a little before 32 weeks and was sent home at 34 1/2 weeks.

They wouldn't let us do bottle or bfing until 34 weeks either. She was born at 33 though. It only took her 5 days to get it and she came home the day she turned 35 weeks.

Before 34 weeks they let me put Bruce up to my nipple while he was getting fed from the feeding tube (I cant remember exactly what week it was he was born at 31w) just to get the 'feel' of things. But yeah that sounds about right 34 weeks I guess.... every baby is different though

I had my youngest at 33 weeks 5 days. I was allowed to breast feed her 4 days later. She was in the NICU for 12 days.

i know you want L/O home but dont push to hard or they will go backwards.... baby will do it when ready!! remember L/O snt even supposed to be here yet!!   best of luck though!
