Sitters! What would you charge?

posted 11th Apr '12
My friend needs a sitter from the 11th-15th next month. I will be watching her 5 year old son all of those days straight while she has to go out of town.

She said she will pay me, and to let her know how much I would charge. She is a good friend of mine so I want to give her a break, but also I don't want to sell myself short either bc with my husband getting out of the military soon,I could really use some extra cash.

What would you charge?

I'd probably tell her $200. That's 50 a day, seems pretty reasonable.

I don't know... 100? To feed, bathe, and entertain him while she is gone.

If she is a good friend, I would charge $25 per day to cover food.

Someone in the childcare field would typically charge a minimum of 75-100 per day (given that the child will probably be awake requiring care for 14 out of those 24 hours) If they were to pay hourly around here the average is $10-15 per hour. But being that she is a good friend $200 seems fair.

Also if he's in school/kindergarten you'll have him even less hours

He doesn't start school until August, so I will have him all day.

Enough to cover food, maybe a few DVD rentals and to take him to the movies or something. I have no idea on how many dollars since I live in another country but 200 sounds like a lot. But if that's reasonable to most people then cool. I wouldn't charge my good friend for baby sitting if she's the type of friend that would return the favour.

200 seems outrageous IMO. Yes I know it's cheap compared to centers... but if my good friend was going to charge me 200 bucks to watch my kid for 5 days, I would be shocked.

Will you be watching him at your house or hers?

True. But like I said, if she were a FRIEND, I wouldn't charge her 200 bucks. Regardless of how much that amounted too per hour.

Hmm, so at least you won't be spending gas to drive to her house. But I would ask her to bring the boy a lunch & some snacks...
Other then that, Idk what I would charge. But it definitely wouldn't be 200. Maybe have her give you a price & go from there?
