I read a lot of conflicting info about how to feed. I bf'd my second but she had poor weight gain so we switched to formula.
My midwife told me to completely drain one breast before offering the other one. But I read in numerous articles to feed 10/20mins off this side then go to that side.
So what is it?

I feed off one side until she's done and pulls off. Then switch to the other. Next feeding we start on the boob she used last.

Timing them could cause an improper fore milk/ hind milk imbalance.

I never switched it up. I'd nurse for as long as she wanted on one boob, then next feeding the other. Never had any issues.

I never switched sides with feedings. The longer you feed on one side, the more the baby is getting the hind milk. I just alternate breast per feeding. Unless I was extremely engorged...then I'd have her feed off of one for a few minutes to relieve pressure then switch to the other and let her finish on that one.

The way I did out was offer one breast and if she was content and fulloff that idoffer three other but wouldnt push it, then at her next feeding id of the boob she didn't empty and back and fourth like that

All depends on baby, usually he just nurses off one boob
at a time and i let him go as long as he wants, if hes still hungry I offer the other titl

I was told to let baby drain one breast, then to offer the other one. At the next feeding, I would start with the opposite breast and do the same. They need to nurse long enough off of each breast to get enough hindmilk (which has more fat than foremilk).

That is exactly why my midwife said. And if I timed her feeds then switched then she's filling up on the foremilk rather than hind.
No wonder so many struggle with bfing with contradicting info out there..

Empty the first breast so that the baby gets the fatty "hind milk", then switch to the other breast until baby is done. The fore milk tends to be very watery and thirst quenching, but the hind milk is where all the good fat and filling milk is.

Next time you breastfeed, start with the breast you ended with. I use a beaded bracelet to remember which boob to put the baby on because I may forget otherwise, especially early on in BFing.

Kellymom.com has a good article that talks about the foremilk/hindmilk balance:

Lol this was me in the middle of the night all sleep deprived. I'd wake up dh to ask him what boob I last ended on. Even though he was never awake. I use to get soooooo confused.

lol Before I used the bracelet trick I would be grabbing and feeling my boobs to see if one felt smaller or emptier than the other... nope. That didn't work at all. I couldn't tell a difference. So I'd be sleep deprived, red eyed and boob juggling in the middle of the night. lol
