What's the difference between tricare prime and tricare standard?

Is there any way I could tell what kind of tricare we have without calling them and asking?lol

Your husband should know! Otherwise, you probably will have to call and double check! I believe Prime is you only get seen on base with the same doctor, etc. Standard is being able to go off base but sometimes you need to pay a tiny % of the amount, depending on what you're getting.

You can look at the pay stub, it should be listed there.

With prime you can also be seen off base if the services you need can not be met on base or if you live more then 40 miles from base.

Tricare prime covers everything 100% but if you were to go off base to get medical treatment you need a referral as for standard you don't need referrals to see an outside doctor but you have to pay every time you go get medical treatment. If you have insurance card it should say it on there if not just call.

Prime you have to get approvals to go to doctors but have less co-pay, standard you can go to any doctor without approvals and the co-pay is more. I learned this the hard way...my medical bills are piled up because they put me on standard instead of prime

I just dropped to Standard from Prime because I didn't want to be seen on base for maternity care. Maternity is at least covered 100% on standard here, but copays apply to everything else.

Might be an overseas thing? Idk but that's what it says in all my paperwork from the bases and the Tricare office.

Are you going to the military treatment facility? Because if you are, that would explain not being charged.

ETA
If I remember right, with standard, cost share is only if you see a civilian provider.
