I was told no smoking or using a straw for three days. I was told if I really wanted to smoke, I would put a wet piece of gauze over my teeth. I waited a week, though. I did forget and sip from a straw a few times, though.

I smoked, drank beer, spit, etc. after an extraction  

......and I just realized how attractive that combo sounded

I got it after having my wisdom teeth pulled and, oddly enough, a main cause is what time of your cycle you're in. I don't remember the specifics, but I was looking up causes and it described me exactly at that time. Weird.

I've done all that at once, so you're not alone. I didn't do it after an extraction though.
