beer and breast feeding

If you drank beer or anything else alcoholic while breast feeding, tell me what you drank, in what quantities, and how old L.O was when you started...how did you plan your alcoholic beverage around feedings?....and any other information you deem pertinent.  

I didn't breastfeed for long so I don't know from experience. But the lactation consultant here at work was telling one of the new mommies that as long as you do not feel buzzed or intoxicated your breastmilk is clear. And that there is no need to pump and dump.

One drink one hour before feeding. Then it has time to get out of your system. You can also pump and dump or pump before you go out and have a couple so u can give ur baby a bottle when u get home assuming ur not out getting sauced. Thats what i learned from breastfeeding class. U can also call la leche league they can explain what all u need to do.

I would pump if I knew I was going to drink. I would make sure I had enough for the night and the next day, then the day after drinking I would pump and dump. I can't remember how long I waited until I put him back to breast, though. Make sure you drink TONS of water the day after drinking. This will help flush out any alcohol, and pump as much as possible.

I hated doing it because I felt like I was wasting milk. lol

My LC told me that you can drink one drink, and be fine to feed. She says pumping and dumping is pointless because it is still going to be in your system.

Mine siad that too as well as one drink an hour she said thats the safe way because some ppl can.handle a lot of liquor but that doesnt mean their baby can lol

Hahaha Yeah.. My husband and I went out for our anniversary last month, and it had been a loooong time since I have had a margarita, since LO is 5 weeks now, so I indulged in 3. hehe   I was pretty tanked.. Luckily I had started pumping to store a supply ... But I had to pump and dump, my breasts got so engorged.. I was so sad to see all of those ounces being dumped down the drain.   hahaha

I had done that. I breastfed my daughter for 13 months and she went to every four hours at ten months but was eveey two up til then. But luckily she slept through the night at a month old lol. But ugh i like nvr got to drink and i was pregnant with her on my 21 bday lol

Hahaha Yeah, it was not fun getting up to feed him every 2 hours that night & then have to pump afterwards because my boobs were burning. lol I won't do that again.  
Aww.. That sucks about being 21 :/ At least you got yourself a wonderful 21st present in the end.

i personally spoke with a lactation consultant and she said if you are NOT drunk or buzzed your milk is not tainted and you do not need to pump and dump that is for your comfort as you would get too full... but if you just have one drink then you need to wait about two hours before feeding again.

i was told to pump and dump for 24 hours after....granted its is probably not necessary, i will probably do to just to be safe. i have to pump for my lo to make sure he is getting enough, and he also gets formula every other feeding so i pump then to so i have plenty stored up for him
