I'm computer stupid...

I tired to add a ticker to my about me.. no luck.. It just shows up at the HTML.. I tried to add it using the 'code' button but it says to click where I want it to go.. and I keep trying and it won't work. I also have tired to add pictures with no luck..   please help what am I doing wrong...
Oh and I have read through some of the help topics but I still can't figure it out...
