taking baby off of 24cal formula... ? w. doc permission

im thinking of taking my little one off w.o doc permission. well i have his G.I docs permission but not pediatrician.,l. he is a 34 weeker. but he is now 5 months actual, and is a whopping 16lbs..his weight is in the 50th percentile and height is in 25th percentile so hes overweight.
was on neocate, then switched to nutramigen then switched to alimentum then to enfamil infant to see how he tolerated it. and so far so good

PLUS he has thickener with his bottle so he has 30 extra calories...

what do you think??

So you're kinda putting your 5 month old on a diet?

I wouldn't do it without the pedi's permission because he knows the full medical history.

ETA: Sorry if that sounds judgmental, I'm just asking because I'm curious as to why you are doing this.

My 2 month old weighs 14 pounds. Discuss it with your pediatrician before going ahead with it.. Percentiles are only estimates of averages and all children grow at different rates.

his G.I doc said it was fine..and his specialty is digestion & was following him since nicu.... so NO im not putting him on a "diet" babies formulas are normally 20 calories... but im in a pickle because ped wants to keep it on 24 cal. but hes like a general practician for babies. and GI is specialty

I'm not sure how it is with preemies, but LO's doctor said an under 1 year old isn't really considered over weight until they're off the path for the growth chart. My LO is and has been in the 90%. I'd talk to his pedi before doing anything. It's always best to have a second option.

this!!! And it depends on how they follow their growth curve. OP 50% isn't overweight at all. It is average.

I was worried that LO's in the 90%. When he was 9 months old he was in the 95%. He started in about 40% when he was born for his weight.

i know...lol. but its so confusing with the preemies!! like docs are comparing him with other babies his actual age not adjusted. so i was thinking if he came out when he was supposed to and was 16lbs minus 6 weeks he would be overweight.

Like I said, I didn't mean to sound judgmental, I was just curious because I don't know how it works with premies and I wasn't sure if their growth chart was the same as full term. When my son was 50% for weight his pedi said he was right on track and not over weight at all.

Cylus at 5 months was over 22 lbs. he was a monster. Audrianna on the other hand was like 15 lbs.

well baby was 5lbs at birth....so he tripled his birthweight and then some.

I'd honestly as the pedi to help you figure out where he is is supposed to be on the growth curve. One doctor might say he's overweight when another might not.

Audrianna was 7lbs 1 oz when she was born 6 lbs 3 oz when we came home (don't know percentiles). I know at like 3 months she was in the 10th percentile for her weight and at 18 months she is in the 85th but the way she followed her curve she is doing fine.  

I got annoyed with my pediatrician friday talking about how my son only grew a half inch in the past month(he said it as if he was dissapointed but said that it was ok pfft). One, he grew an inch and a half in his first month. Two, he was early.. Imo he doesnt have to be the same height other kids his age are(though he is the average). I swear docs ignore the fact that babes are early. I dont care how big my son was at birth, he wasnt full gestation.

Audrianna has only grown 12 inches since she was born and she is 18 months. Seriously 18 month pants and stuff are too long for her but her butt is so big that we have to use 18 and 24 month pants.
