Finally got some answers

Well we got our answers, We has and ECEP evaluation through the university, yesterday as to why DD 34 Month old only says a few words.

They evaluated her for 2 hours, with a Pedi, ST, DS, and Devolpmental Phy. They were all such great people and worked really well with DD.

Then they gave us an hour break and then met with us for the results.

DD, Receptive language is higher then they ever expected, she understands and a 3 1/2- 4 Year old level.

But Her Spoken language is at about an 18-24mo level. they said she has weak oral muscles making it hard for her to form words and speak, Basiclly her brain knows what she wants to say but her body just wont let her do it..... This also explains why she drools and shoves so much food in her mouth that she cant even close it.

We also found out the her Fine motor skill are average but her GROSS motor skills are At a 21-24 month level, Again, her mind knows what she should do she just can't get her body to do it.

She also has problems putting 2 steps together, for example. If you have to do steps A and B to get out come C. She has trouble putting the 2 steps together. She can do A and she can do B, but she can't understand that you have to do A then B to get C.

They told us we just need to keep with the ST and possibly restart PT and when she transitions in AUG to to school system out of EI. That they don't recomend the pre-school because she is very smart and would probably not get much from it, that she would bennift from just going in for the therapy's with a small group of kids.

These people are so wonderful and it was nice to actually get some answers, so now we go from here

My son has a bad drooling problem too. They diagnosed him with childhood Apraxia but then last week I found out he needs his tonsils and adenoids out as well as tubes so after that is one who knows what the diagnosis will be.

I bet you feel a Lil ease in your heart/mind. Im glad someone is listening, helping, & wishing your DD great progress.

They also said she has large tonsils, but at this point it's not a concern

My daughter used to drool very badly but we had her adenoids removed due to some breathing problems at night and she got put on a seizure med and now she barely drools but some days she does it very badly. Thankfully not as often as she used to. My daughter also has a hearing loss in her right ear that is auditory neuropathy which causes the nerves not to send the signals of sound to the brain like it should. And she has hypotonia too which the doc said may contribute to her feeding and speech problems along with the hearing loss. She is 35 months old and starts school in August at a speech school.
