I dont know what to do!! [PICS]

posted 29th Mar '12
My 8 month old has severe eczema. I have posted about it before asking for advice. Ive taken him to the doctor and I feel I have exhausted all their options. Ive used 1% hydracortizone(sp?), Ive used steroid creme, Ive used a home remedy with Coconut oil - Vitamin E oil - and cocoa butter but nothing. It looks like it's getting worse. This morning when he woke up I went to get him from his crib and there was blood all over his sheets because he just digs at his little face constantly or he rubs his face back and forth on our jeans because his face itches so bad. I put socks on his hands but it doesn't really help. I feel SOOO bad for him!!

Right now I am trying just a little bit of straight Vitamin E oil but I want to be careful with that just in case he is allergic or something..

Anyone have any remedies that I could try that may have worked for you or your LO? ANY help would be very very much appreciated!

Is he on milk based formula or breastmilk?

IF it's milk based formula...switch to soy.
If it's breastmilk. CUT OUT all of your dairy consumption.

Continue using the steroid.

Calendula Ointment!!!! You should be able to find it online, seriously. My Mom makes it and we gave some to SO's granny who has really severe eczema, and it was clearing up within days.

I would try to find out if he has an allergy that makes his eczema act up worse-- poor little guy!!

We use Aquaphor Baby and Aveeno occasionally and our kids' eczema both seem to stay pretty low-key.

I use pawpaw ointment on EVERYTHING! And it works! I've never had a child with eczema but it should work, and i dont think it would sting if he rubs it into his eyes. It also soothes and disinfects

Do you breastfeed him? My friends son looked just like that and she found out he had a lactose and soy allergy so she cut it out of her diet completely and he got better right away.

except the steroid part. Eczema is a big sign of a lactose allergy.

We tried that because the doc said the same but the soy made him throw up after every bottle so we switched him back.

Maybe Ill check out a different brand of soy..

Also..i feel for you.
My poor baby's face would just bleeeed and bleed. I was so scared of infection or scarring.
But ...within a couple months of taking him of milk based formula...and putting the steroid cream on him...he was rash free.

Good luck.

Oh....only give him a bath like twice a week too.

Switch to Pedimentium? I think it's called.

It's a kind of formula for kids who are allergic to dairy AND soy.
