any way to speed up M/C process??

posted 27th Mar '12
So I M/C (8wks) about 11 days ago, i've been bleeding like a medium period minimal clotting. Saw the doctor yesterday and he said I haven't dilated at all yet and was a bit disappointed by that. So I was just wondering if anyone knew of any natural way to speed things up a bit?? Post and run but if anyone has any ideas theyy would be appreciated  TIA

First off I'm sorry for your loss. Secondly when I miscarried sex help speed up the process but I still didn't pass the baby so I had to have a d & c. I'm surprise thou the doctor isn't wanting to do a d & c on you.

The only thing I have ever heard of to speed it up is the medication they can give you, or to just have the D&C. I would NOT have sex though. Doctors warn you not to, even after the miscarriage is complete and everything has passed because you are not fully healed and your cervix is not fully closed until you stop bleeding completely, which can take anywhere from a couple days up to a couple weeks. If you have sex before then you can get a really bad infection.

Having sex to try to induce labor is completely different from having sex to try to induce a miscarriage.

I thought the same thing about the sex thing but the er doctor recommended us to do it & at first I was completely against it. For me I was only spotting brown blood but the second we had sex the red blood & cramps came on bad. Once that started we didn't have anymore sex. Scared the smurf out of me.

Very true. My dr told me to wait a minimum of 2 weeks after mine. The hospital prescribed cytotec after the miscarriage was confirmed. When I followed up with my dr the next day she gave me the option of continuing the meds or a d&c. I just went with the meds.

I wish my doctor offered me that but the doctors back in my hometown are not the smartest so if I ever live back there I will use out of town doctors.

That sucks. The only bad part about the cytotec was finding somewhere to get it filled. I went to 3 pharmacys before I found one that would. Cytotec is also used along side the abortion pill so I ran into a lot of ignorant smurfs.

People can be so judgmental.

Your doctor is the first one I have ever heard of suggesting it. So if I were OP I would definitely ask my doctor before doing it. Even most online resources warn against it. It's just common knowledge you can get an infection if you have sex while your cervix is open. That is one of the main reasons you are not supposed to have sex for 6 weeks after delivering a baby.

Thank you for all the replies! SEX is NOT an option... ouch, i have too much cramping and it hurt to put a tampon in... so now only pads  Dr. said I was too far to try the cytotec comfortably, he said at this stage it will usually lead to an emergent D&C. We both want to hold off on the D&C due to the chance (even though small) of scarring and adhesions since we want another baby, and I've had one before. So hmmm nothing i didn't know of  I was hoping some all natural herbs or something. This waiting business sucks.

And thank you all so much for responding!

I defiantly see what your saying. It took us 11 months after my d & c to get pregnant with my daughter. I hope the baby passes on it own so you don't have to have a d & c.

You could try some raspberry leaf tea, some people have had luck with it saying it helps with dilation when they are trying ti induce labor.

just recently found out i had a "missed" miscarriage last week and my dr gave me cytotech to help speedup the process. It was the oral pills and honestly they didnt help any. I had mild cramping for maybe 3 hours and only bled lightly with no clots. also on the sex topic my dr said it was fine as long as I used condoms to prevent getting pregnant before the tissue passed. Sex is the farthest thing from my mind right now but I thought I would share what I was told.
