Vicks Vapo rub vs Lamisil

So I used to swim at a sports center and some how got this nasty fungus in my big toe nail.. I went to the Dr and he said that he sees this a lot in older people but not younger people... He told me I got it from the pool.. Nasty  so he gave me a prescription for Lamisil... its like 300 bucks a pop and you need to take it for 3 to 6 months! oh and you could get Hep from it! Ummmmm crazy. I just want my toe nail to look normal. So I tried it and it made my feet numb! I went to the store and someone said rub vicks on it and it will go away.. It takes a long time but I am going to give it a shot.. Has anyone else tried it or heard of it?

I sure hope so because I am so over wearing a band aid on my toe to cover it up! 

no never heard of that, but have heard of people using absorbine jr. my gma and her husband SWEAR by it!

I've heard that cutting your nail back (in case it is disconnecting underneath due to the fungus) and soaking your toe in Listerine will help, too. I haven't tried it, though.

Well it pretty much fell off for the most part! It is so nasty! The nail starts turning white and lifts away from the nail bed...... If you soak it all this stuff comes out from under the nail.. Its like the fungus grows under the nail and then just turns to powder! So this happened and I just filed it down as much as I could.. The vicks is working.. The nail is clear! Or what nail I do have.. Someone once told me to soak it in vinegar or pee on it!

The good news: it will grow back   I had the same thing happen to me after a pedicure about 4-5 years ago. My nail looks just like it did before the infection. I totally know what you are talking about with the gross-ness   Give it a couple of months...

what did you do to fix it? 

I went to my dr, and they prescribed some sort of lotion to put on the nail... I don't know how well it worked, but I just cut the nail back until it eventually all came off and grew back.
