nope, no water I just dice them up and fit them into the ice cube trays, this way when they freeze they're making the perfect size to throw into the teether. that might be a good idea to add a little water to the cubes before freezing!

I actually just started giving Stella Broccoli and she's 9 months old. Every baby is different, but I didn't want to take the chance since it can be a hard food for little tummies to digest (I've only read, I don't know for absolute sure since I didn't confirm that with her pedi).

But it can cause gassiness, so I guess if you're gonna try it out I would make sure you're not noticing any tummy upsets.

Agreed, it can be hard on their tummies, my pedi said to wait until he was closer to or over a year. He did have some digestion issues, so that may have been why he needed to wait. I still have no tried it since I don't want to risk causing him discomfort. I would just watch for fussiness after eating it. With strawberries they don't digest very well so he always gets crabby and irritable for a few hours after eating them.

If people start before 6 months, most just do rice cereal. It's probably the only food that will not cause stomach upset. reliably.  My son had to wait until about 7.5 months until he was ready to really eat solids.
Just be aware that a baby needs to be able to sit up on the floor unassisted before they are ready for solids. ANother marker is that your baby should sprout at least one tooth.
IS there a reason you are starting early? Just curious.

My son is almost 8 months and is just now cutting a tooth, barely through though. I've also heard broccoli causes gas and should wait until around 8 months to start. Casey started solids around 5 1/2-6 months and we skipped cereal and went with avocado, I heard it was a good starter food and cereal can sometimes cause constipation and didn't feel like messing with all that. But I agree with you and the other ladies broccoli is defiantly not a starter food.

Okay so I'm loving making my own baby food.

Today I made butternut squash, carrots and I'm currently steaming pears.

I have also made sweet potatoes, avocado, bananas and applesauce. I bought a mango and some peaches to make soon too.

Thanks for all your help ladies!!

Hello Moms!!

I have been making my sons baby food for the past month, Ive done butternut squash, sweet potatoes and apples (I buy his bananas bc Im afraid of the whole not cooking it first thing). Well tonight I am going to try to do green beans and I read (from wholesomebabyfood)that you may have trouble getting them to a smooth puree.. Any moms have any tips on making the green beans smooth??

And also does anyone make the bananas? If so, tips? I noticed the food I make him he eats fine, the banana he gets a small red dot everytime near his temple. And I read the package and it has absorbic (sp?) acid so Im assuming thats what is giving him the small red spot!

Thank you ladies!

Hey!!!!!!!!!

For me I use a wire strainer to get the skins out. It becomes very watery that way, so I mix it with the cereal.

I tried so hard to make it smooth, but I also didn't use a blender, I have heard that works the best for green beans and peas.

Quick ? What's the best way to make avocado for future use. I made it today and found that I have to put it through a metal strainer to make it fine enough even though it was nice and ripe, just meshing it with a fork was not enough. Should I send it whole to the sitter and ask her to make it as needed or should I make it and then maybe freeze it? My concern is with it turning brown. Any suggestions?

I just gave my daughter Avacado tonight, I used 1/4 of it, and for me it was easy to mash with a fork, but did have some chunky-ness to it, I mixed it with baby cereal and formula and it turned out smooth and fine.

What if you pureed it? That might be easier for stubborn "fruit"
