I applaud you ladies. I dont know where I would find the time and energy. I want to make her food but I cant seem to squeeze any more time out of the day. I can barely make her bottles some nights. How long does the food keep? If I prepared the food on a Saturday, like some peas, how long would they last in the frig/freezer? Thanks.

I think the fridge is only a couple days - but they stay good in the freezer for months. I think the recommendation is 3 months, but mine never last that long. I make 1 food every 3-4 days after she goes down for the night. Now that she has a larger variety of foods I sometimes make 2 or 3 similar foods - like I will steam the yellow squash and when its done I put the zucchini in the steamer and by the time I am done pureeing the yellow squash the zucchini is ready to be pureed.

What foods have you made so far?

Ok, I am going to try because it just makes sense to want to give your child the very best!

I was using a small food chopper - but just bought a blender that I will be using from now on.

I havent done potatos with her yet. I want the sweet potatos to be one of the last veggies we do, and regular potatos I think we will do in the upcoming months.

Green beans were tough to puree. After pureeing them I put them through a strainer to make sure all the skins were either pureed or removed. Before I strained them Kailyn wouldnt eat them - but once I strained them she gulped them down. Same with peas.

I dont know why she wouldnt like the other foods you served - maybe she just needs to get comfortable with the texture of them. It can take multiple attempts for a baby to get used to a new food or texture. I would just keep trying the homemade stuff and if she eats less for a couple days its not that big of a deal since they still get all the nutrients they need from formula/breastmilk.

You also could try mixing it with cereal, or a food you know she likes. Or, try mixing some jarred food with the homemade stuff. You could also alternate spoonfuls - I did that when she was getting used to new veggies - give her some apples then when she opens her mouth for more slide in some peas! lol. Now there isnt a food she doesnt like!

Did you strain the green beans, and peel the zuchini? That may be one reason. I would try acorn, or butter nut squash, or applesauce. They are all favoriable flavors. Then with my son what I did, was mix the one he liked with the one he didn't. Also it takes 15-17 trys for them to know if they don't like something, so I would keep trying...

You guys are on top of it. I didn't strain anything. I should try that...Has anyone ever used the cusineart processor?? I really want her to eat fresh veggies and I know it takes some patience (which I have). I really did not have the time to make her fresh veggies but found the time while cooking our dinners.. We just all eat together...I take a bite of my food, she gets a bite of her food....Hopefully she will get use to fresh veggies.

I just started my baby on solids and have been making my own. I love doing it and its very easy. I started with avacoda, sweet potatoes, and now we are on to bananas. I froze all the extra in ice cube trays and they are thawing out nicely and it works great! I use a magic bullet to puree everything and I love it.
I'm going to start on squash once I'm back from vacation.

That is it. Jamil has a hard time with the food if it isn't strained. I don't know about the sweet potato, mine came out very thin, and a good consistancy. How did you make it? I dont know anythign about the cusineart. I have a magic bullet. It is very easy and nice for baby food. I would try the acorn squash, or one of the other winter squashes, because they puree very well as do apples, The carrots have to be pretty soft, and don't use the same water you boiled/steamed them in. Or the flavor is to strong.

Water?? Are you suppose to mix in a bit of water? Opps...I guess if you did you would get the same texture as jar food. Do you cook the apples as well or do you just throw them in the mix?/
