I didn't have a steamer, and didn't want to spend a lot, so I bought a steamer basket instead. I think it was around $6 and it goes inside any pot you already have. Not to mention the space you'll save not getting the steamer.

I got the baby food processor they have at Babies R Us. It was $20, and I love it.

Yeah yeah, steamer basket...that's what I was talking about. Sorry I just automatically assume steamer = steamer basket...I forget they make fancy shmancy ones.

We just use a normal steamer - and my mother had a small chopper so I was using that, but it took a while cause I had to do lots of small batches. I just picked up a new blender (for like $20 at Target) because mine is in storage (since I never really used it before) somewhere and I am too lazy to search it out.

I too have seen the munchkin one... but, it just seems like it would be a waste of money since it is so easy with the blender and the blender can be used for other things as well.

I did peel it. I think it said you didnt have to though on wholsomebabyfood.com but that the skins may be hard to digest for babies under 8 months.

With the yellow squash I took the skin off like I would peel an apple or papaya or something- like cut through some of the flesh and take ot off in sheets. With the zucchini I used a knife and cut it more like you would skin a carrot - juat brushing the top layer off. I found that the yellow skin was a bit harder/thicher than the zucchini.

I am glad you mentioned this though cause I am going to make more summer squash tonight and I was going to try to leave some skin on... but I think I will keep taking it off for now!

I will definitly be making my own baby food for this baby. The jarred baby food did absolutely nothing for my daughter. It seemed she was always fussy and she wasn't gaining much weight. Now that she eats what we eat she rarely ever cries and has been gaining weight very well. The jarred food also made her very constipated.another problem she no longer has.
I mean I'm not 100% sure that it was the baby food but once she started eating *our* food everything changed.

I cant wait to start making Hunters food!

Can you use supplement vitamin drops?
It says on the bottle to start using them when your child starts solids.

I have never heard of needing them. We are not decreasing the formula she is getting until she is 1, so she still gets all the vitamins she needs from there.

I've just started Sanaa on rice. I made it myself just because I like to know EXACTLY how her food is made and the only way to do that is to make it myself. She's taking it in her bottles because she's not good with a spoon yet, but she loves it! Plus, in the longrun, I think making baby food is cheaper because when you cook, all you have to do is ex out the seasoning and puree it. Simple!

I like my veggies steamed anyway, and I'm going to start using those Ziploc Zip 'n steam bags so I don't overcook them (sometimes I forget about them when they're on the stove). I'm addicted to Ms. Dash though, so I'll just have to put it on after the veggie cook instead of during.

Maybe the jar food is sweeter than homemade food?

That's what I thought as well and I put some formula mix in the food I made but that made no difference....It all came right back out her mouth....

Stubborn little turd.
Lol Thats something Hunter would do.

I tried a new nipple a few weeks ago and he just let all the formula run down his cheek (mind you the nipple was still a stage 1) lol
