Overweight and not showing?

posted 14th Mar '12
So this is kind of a big issue to me... I'm 28 weeks pregnant with a baby boy!   But the problem is I'm not even showing yet! I am overweight. Pre-pregnancy I started out at 198 lbs. and I'm 5'4. I have issues with my body and lots of insecurties, so it makes me feel even worse that I'm not showing at 28 weeks!! I only have 13 more to go and I'm just afraid that I won't get that cute 'baby bump'. :/ Anyone else with this problem? (please be kind!)

Unfortunately if you're overweight you won't really get that cute baby bump.

When your overweight you gain much less, and vice versa. I'm underweight I think (5'9 115) pre pregnancy and gain 50+ lbs

Not 100% true! I'm only 5'3 and if you look at my profile I have 2 pictures of me. The first one is me at 6 months with my 1st daughter, the 2nd picture of me is 4 days before my 2nd daughter was born. Both times when I was pregnant I start around the same weight as you.

Quite honestly, if you have a long torso you might not attain the bump you are looking for anyway.

My ssmurf in law is 5'3" and weighs 280lbs (well pre-pregnancy she did). She ATE her way thru her first pregnancy getting her to the 280 and did it again thru the second one to get the "bump". She was so big it was disgusting. She tipped the scales at 350lbs. She was bigger than I was with my twins. I am 5'4" and the day I delivered my girls I weighed 150lbs. She had this mini head on this HUGE lower half. It was jsut nasty and because she did that chasing the bump she ruined her body. She will have nasty skin for the rest of her life unless she ever gets the $$$ for a tummy tuck.

Moral of the story is, no matter what you look like, you are growing a beautiful baby. Baby bump or not you are very much pregnant and are about to join the wonderful club of motherhood. Don't stress on your looks and don't fret over the bump. remember to eat healthy for you and baby. Remember to try to be stress free for you and the baby.

That's not true. I take it you were never heavy and pregnant.

Some women just don't show all that much, regardless of their weight. I've seen some pretty skinny girls who barely had a bump at 40 weeks, and I've seen some overweight women who had a very noticeable bump by the end. Everyone is different.

Well thank you guys   that makes me feel a lot better!! I just hate that all my other 'skinny' friends are pregnant and they can post cute belly pictures at 16 weeks! And here i am at 28 weeks and nothing!! lol, I can definitely tell that i'm getting bigger and my belly is hard, but for the public, its the opposite. I just don't like hearing all the time that "you don't even look pregnant". I am just hoping for a healthy baby!! and fyi.. i don't have a long torso at all... lol its quite short!

I sort of understand what you are saying, but I sort of don't. Or I disagree with it. I am taller than you, but also weighed more- not saying how much. I was very sick till 22 weeks or so, and didn't start putting on baby weight till after. Yes, it is sad that when you are 30 weeks and no one realizes you are pregnant- even if by then you've gained 25lbs.(which I had). It is sadder still to me that I gained 25 more, after spending a LONG time before conception eating right and working out- and only manage to lose and keep off 40. So I am 10 over my heaviest ever. It is not cute- no matter if it is a baby bump. I feel like a lard ass, and would have much rather stayed fitter and smaller with no noticeable baby bump, than gotten mine and felt heavy, bloated, bad bad bad.... .Just saying. I get both ends of the spectrum, but please, you are better off keeping your weight down imo if you can.

I have kind of spanned the weight a bit. My first baby i was 115 when i got prego, and 175 the day i delivered. i didnt start showing with him till i was 5-6 months. mysecond i started around 140, was a little depressed cus my hubby was deployed and delivery day i weighed 199, after coming down from 205. but i started showing really early with that one. this time i started out at 175, eishing i had lost weight before the baby weight came, i started showing around 20 weeeks and at 28 weeks now, i weigh 193. im not a huge girl, but im not tiny either, but no matter what size i started out, i eventually got the bump. maybe you will get it, maybe you wont. it all depends on how you carry. but you will have a beautiful baby. look foreard to that.
