Preclampsia - inducing me at 33 weeks 3 days

This morning I woke up with a really bad headache that tylenol was not taking care of. My doctor sent me to labor and delivery to be monitored. This is our 5th time being sent to L&D. We had been here previously for blood pressure issues and chronic contractions.

They started me with 2 doses of a fast acting blood pressure medicine (I forget the name). The second dose worked for about 15 minutes, then my BP went right back up (by "up" I mean "212/155" was the highest and typical was "190s/140s").

So... they decided to sschedule me for delivery tomorrow.

They started a magnesium sulfate drip (which also helps lower the blood pressure... thank goodness, my headache will get better even as the magnesium makes me feel like crud... but at least I won't have a stroke or give our baby girl a seizure!).

Then they put a "cervidel" (sp?) string into my hoo-hoo to thin out my cervix.

The plan is to start the pitocin early tomorrow morning (5am ish) and we should have our little girl sometime tomorrow afternoon.

One of the nurses from the NICU spent about an hour with us discussing all the different things that they do and what may or may not happen depending on how our baby responds to being born.

Ido not expect to be able to hold her at all, but hopefully she will come out screaming like a banshee and breathing well and I'll at least get to see her and touch her, and kiss her on the forehead before the wisk her off to NICU. If she is healthy enough for me to hold for a moment or two, that would be divine!

My doctor says he wants to keep me on the magnesium for up to 24 hours after delivery which meansI am stuck in the bed and (most likely) unable to go across the hall to NICU to see my darling girl. They might be able to put me in a wheelchair so I can go over for a few minutes, but no one would say for sure if I would be able to do that or not. I really hope I can. I don't know how I will cope going 24 hours without seeing her!

My husband brought both the digital camera and the digital camcorder, so if I'm not able to go see her in person, I can send him to go video tape her for me and bring me back the pictures.

Good thing your hubby brought the cameras, when we found out Aidan was coming early we had nothing! So we had to buy a disposable camera! Hang in there momma, tomorrow is a good Birthday!

I hope everything tunrs out good for you guys!!! 33 weeks is pretty far along! i had the magnesium for 24 hours after my daughter was born, and to be honest with you i felt like SHIT and slept most of those hours! dont feel bad if you cant be with her during the first 24, you guys have a whole life together hehe. it can be special daddy bonding time! thats what we did. good luck!!

Looking for a silver lining... At our OB office you never know who will be delivering... you get whomever is on call at the time. We keep pestering our nurse to find out which doctor is on call tomorrow so that we can find out who will be delivering. Of the 6 doctors at the practice, the two that we like least have already been on call this weekend so they will *not* be on call tomorrow. =)

I've been having headaches also. When do you know you need to call because of it?

The doctors told us that they want us to call them if I get a headache that Tylenol doesn't take care of or lasts for 24 hours.

Because we've been monitoring my Blood Pressure regularly, I have an automatic BP cuff at the house (push a button and it does all the work). Because I've been dealing with high BP issues for several years and we check my BP all the time I knew without checking that it was my BP that was causing my headache.

Aww good luck and lots of prayers from Kansas. On bedrest right now due to preeclampsia. If we can just hold out for 2 more weeks... highest blood pressure has gotten was 192/115 but protein is at +3
