Is it true that you have to be on youe period to get this inserted? I was talking to one of my friends about maybe getting it and her doctor told her that she needed to start (she had a baby mid january) her period and then call so they can get her in. I was just wondering cause I'm most likely going to get it.

My friend just got hers put in at her 6 week pp appointment and she wasn't on hers.

yea they just need to know that your not pregnant, cause they wont be able to put it if you if, considering the fact that it is put in your uterus.

They prefer it.

Because your cervix is softer and a tiny bit open when you are on your period.

It is actually more comfortable for you as well.

If you have just had a baby however your cervix is a bit open and soft anyway so it should be fine.

My doctor said shewould have preferred me to be on mine because it makes it easier to insert, and this way they know that your most likely not pregnant. But she didnt make me wait to get it done.

I had an IUD put in, and I wasn't on my period.
But because I wasn't on my period, the doctor had to dilate my cervix a little.
Which of course, hurt like hell.
The first day after getting the IUD is always the worst.
