IUGR

posted 12th Mar '12
My son was born on Friday at 37 weeks even. They are telling me that he is not a preemie (I thought he was a late term preemie), but due to his weight (4 lbs 2 ounces), they have him in NICU,

His lungs and brain are fine. He is on an IV and I am currently breastfeeding and supplementing until the milk comes in in full swing. He has not lost weight, but I'm still so worried about him   We did not detect his low birth weight until Monday, and he was sectioned Friday...

Did anyone have a baby with IUGR? Did you ever find out why? That's my problem: I have no idea why this happened.....

My daughter had it and was born at 38w 1d, she weighed 5lb 7oz. The placenta basically shut down around 36 weeks. She is 3 now and completely fine

He should catch up just fine mama.
My little guy was severe IUGR from 23 weeks until he delivered at 32 weeks. He was way under in growth and eventually stop growing all together. Turns out his placenta was over half dead. He has other health issues that keep him from gaining weight but none directly from being IUGR. Normally those babies rebound perfectly once they are aout

Glad I saw this! Im actually getting an ultrasound in the morning to see if my baby has IUGR because I havnt been growing like I should. I'm really hoping she has grown in the last couple of weeks
If she has IUGR will they let her bake anymore? I'm 36 weeks

I was allowed to go an extra week and had to monitor her movements. As long as she was moving a lot then it was ok for me to still be pregnant

I hope she is ok and that i won't have to worry about it, but if she has it I really hope they at least let me reach 37 weeks! I want her to come out healthy. I am so afraid of having a NICU baby

Yes they will...he was supposed to bake longer but then I wasn't geting his normal kicks on Friday....the cord was wrapped around his neck when they sectioned him and this did not pick up on the heart monitor. There was a deceleration when I had a contraction and that's why they sectioned me, thankfully. Your doctor might as you to come in for twice a week heart monitoring which is a GOOD THING. Good luck! Keep us abreast!

My little man had it too and it was because of my high blood pressure not sending enough oxygen to the placenta which caused it to age prematurely so he wasnt getting all of the nutrients he needed. I had him at 35 weeks

i had my son on friday morning, i was induced because of iugr...we were expecting that the entire pregnancy sine i have 2 uteruses...i was 35weeks and he never went to the nicu just had to stay a couple extra days to treat the jaundice, so i stayed in the guest center at the hospital since we lived so far away so that way i would not miss a feeding

Did your doctor tell you to supplement with formula? Mine says I should but I'm not too happy about it..my baby was released at 4 9 and has stayed the same weight...although, he does look fatter to me...

Wow , can I ask why they would induce you for that? I thought the theory was the longer they stay in, the better. My son was sectioned without a question because of a deceleration, but not because of his weight...congrats, btw!

no they told me not to supplement her & to keep tryinq to breastfeed . she wasnt eatinq & i wasnt about to starve my baby . my milk finally came in ( when i pumped ) tha last day i was in tha hospital . so since then i have been pumpinq & qivinq it to her that way .

from my ultrasound at 31 weeks to the one at 35 weeks he grew only a pound and was in the less than 3 percentile for growth...he was better outside of me since he didn't have the room to grow inside of me =] and Thanks
