As a mom of a beautiful baby girl with Down syndrome, I wanted to share this video that was sent to me today... I think it an older one, but like I said, I just got it to day.... It is so touching......

Thanks.. but to be honest it is by God's loving grace that I have been able to be the mom I need to be to my youngest daughter...

It's kinda of ironic... I never (and I admit, selfishly) gave a second thought to kids with special needs before my daughter. I had never really met any adults with any kind of disability. Anytime the opportunity arose, I would kind of shy away and instead of doing the right thing, I would kid myself into thinking that it was out respect for their privacy. When in all actuality, I was scared. You see, I suffer from a very, very comunicable and disatrous disease.. I'm not sure if this is the technical term but I call in it "foot-in-mouth-itis". And I was always afraid I would say, do or look the wrong way and hurt their feelings.

Now I find myself introducing myself to adults or parents of kids with Ds or other disabilities and doing the right thing. I have become very involved in the Ds community here and have even become a volunteer for one of the organizations here in San Diego. My daughter has not only opened my eyes but my heart to my selfishness and had made me a better human being.

Just goes to show how else the powerfulness of the birth of your child can be.

That's awesome. I was kind of the same way until I got a job at college working in the freshman cafeteria. There were 7-8 special needs adults who were always working in the dishroom. They were, hands down, the funnest people to be around. I'm still shy around special needs people, but I try to get out of my comfort zone and interact with them more.
