as long as he's getting plenty of mommy milk, he's fine. =) My 1st didn't start really eating "meals" until closer to 18m and we introduced solids at 12m. Even at 3 yr old, sometimes he prefers a mommy milk meal instead of a regular one.

Almost four months and counting! I fed my daughter solids starting at three weeks when she got her first tooth so this is a huge change for me. I don't planto give him solids until I go back to work, sometime between him being 9-12 months old, but I may crack earlier if he keeps waking me up every hour to BF at night.

My daughter just turned 6 months old. I am thinking about delaying solids a little longer, but am not sure our pediatrician will be okay with that. She recommended starting solids by 6 months and using an iron supplement as well (although we haven't because she spits it right back up or it makes her tummy upset every time).

A question I have for the group: Has anyone delayed solids until their baby got his/her first tooth? I've heard that there are some important digestive enzymes that are not present until baby has a tooth, but I found been able to find much documentation on this to share with our pediatrician.

Your pediatrician cannot make you give your child solids, and starting at 6 months is just a recommendation.

Asher got his first tooth at 5 months, and the second a few days after. He's 6 1/2m and is still exlusively breastfed. We've attempted a steamed carrot and avocado, but he wasn't having it, he's still gaining and developing well so we aren't worried.

starting solids has nothing to do with teeth (some babies are born with them. some don't get them until well past a year) or with your pedi. Mine told me to start just before 4m.   and my first son was EBF until 12m old.

It's actually recommended that solids are not given until at LEAST 6 months, at the very EARLIEST, but many people are not up-to-date on this info, including pedis, sadly.

Is your daughter showing any of the signs of readiness? (they are listed on the front page). I would start there. Even if she has ALL of them, you can still delay solids until 12m or even longer.

My son turns 6 months tomorrow! He has been introduced to baby food and loves it, sits up all by himself and even tries to take the spoon to feed himself lol so I am going to try some eggs and bananas tomorrow to see how he does!

hmm. ok. .. maybe you are in the wrong thread?

be careful about eggs. I don't think they are supposed to have the whites until they are 12m. might want to double check that.

it is, but you're not delaying solids, so I just thought it was kind of funny for you to post here. if you'd like any info or more resources though, we're happy to help.

I've heard from a pediatric dietitian that giving the entire egg is fine now.

My daughter is 8.5 months now and having baby muesli for breakfast, made for 6-7 months. This is the first food she had, ive kept it bland with no flavour. I want to introduce another meal, I tried dinner last night with a mashed consistency made for 8-9mths and she just gagged on it and vomited. Should I keep giving this to her because shell get used to it? The plan was to BLW but I'm slightly paranoid about Giving her bits and find myself still clueless about it. I've asked lots of questions and talked to different people, Goofled lots. But I still feel like I know nothing about it and unsure what to give her. I gave her banana and my mum freaked out because it got stuck to the roof of her mouth, and her freaking out made be freak out :-/
She had yoghurt a few days ago too.
