re: "DELAYED" SOLIDS (6m+) support and info

I was given a Baby Bullet for my son's baby shower. He's 5 months, 4 months adjusted, so it'll be a few months before I think about solids.

Would it be a good idea to try it out on him, just to see how his tummy takes it, before going straight for the regular foods?

well first, you want to wait until he shows all the signs of readiness (they are listed in the OP). then you want to wait until he he 6m old (adjusted age). THEN you can wait until he shows interest, probably closer to 8-9 months (actual age) and IF you want to start solids then, you can go right to "regular" food. If you don't want to start yet, you can wait until 12m old and then introduce regular food.

you don't have to puree or mash up food when they start eating solids. that's totally up to you.

I'm slightly annoyed with my son's pedi.

She agrees that we should wait to start Bub on solids until his corrected age of 6 months but says I should start with iron enriched cereals, for the iron and the calories.

I'm not an expert but from what I know cereal is useless.

I was talking with my therapist today about all this and she agrees with me that it's best to skip the cereal and go straight to other foods. She's a social worker at the hospital and works with moms in the NICU, and LC's and whatnot as well. She said the Poly-Vi Sol drops would do just fine.

What is up with the pedi's hammering iron enriched stuff at me?

My DD has never had iron supplements and never needed them either. When they tested her iron at her 9 month check it was perfect. We also skipped the nasty cereal and when straight to real food with Baby Led Weaning.

Same with my kid. When they checked his iron they were amazed how perfect it was so perfect and didn't really believe me when I told them he was still exclusively breast fed. Giving iron supplements to breast fed babies actually makes it harder to absorb the iron in breast milk causing their levels to go down this is different in FF babies

Bub is still too young, but how will I know to do BLW? And how do you go about it?

you just wait until he is at least 6m old (adjusted), shows all the signs of readiness and can feed himself. that's BASICALLY all BLW is. but there are some links on the front page too.

as for iron enriched / supplements, etc., they are more harm than good for a BF baby. read more here:
http://kellymom.com/nutrition/vitamins/iron/

and don't use the Poly-Vi-Sol drops either. they have a bunch of crap in them that babies don't need. If you give ANY drops, find ones that are JUST Vit D (I think it's Vit D3 specifically) and where you only give one DROP (not dropper-ful .. just one single drop) per day. Otherwise, there is a bunch of extra stuff that they don't need.

keep in mind that "Poly-Vi-Sol" and "Tri-Vi-Sol" etc are made by and promoted by formula companies as well.

He's already getting this once per day. They're recommended up here because we don't get enough sun.

I need help from all of you please!

My LO is 14 months and we started solids late so he still drinks a lot of breast milk... I still have huge boobs. We want to TTC agian but I have not been having very meany AF yet. I think that is from the nursing. Anyway my problem is that sex is still hurting a lot

Is it normal for sex to hurt while breastfeeding or should I talk to a Dr if it still hurts this far our from a baby?

Also my vagina looks different... very different   I am so sad. I feel like I just ruined my Valentines day from the pain I need some advise

Even if I am still nursing? I did not have sex much the first year... I mean in the past 15 months since the baby has been born I have only had sex a handful of times. So did not know how bad it was until just the other day

I can't see the label enough to see if there is anything else in there, but from what I can see it looks fine. My son has also gotten a VitD drop once a day since he was born (now 9m old) .. at least when I remember it.
