I'm going to be a first time mom and am very interested in delaying solids. This is sounding dumb even as I write it, but does jarred baby food count as "solids"? Sorry if that's a silly question.

Sort of, lol. But it's not good, and half the point of BLW is that you don't use purées at all, especially not preprepared.

Hi   I'm a first time mom to a 3 1/2 month old baby girl. I have been doing alot of research on delaying solids & BLW.. i am definatly extremely interested in waiting until my daughter is ready. My question is all the info thats on here is geared towards breastfed babies and my daughter gets formula only (she had breastmilk for the first week and then formula) .. Is any of the information different for formula fed babies or do i need to do anything different with how long i wait to start solids or anything like that?

yes, anything that is not breastmilk, acts as a "solid" to the baby's digestive system (even formula). However, for the sake of "starting solids", it refers to anything that is not breastmilk or formula.

most of the stuff will still apply to you as a formula feeding mom. The most important thing to watch for is the signs of readiness (they are in the OP if you missed them). Generally, with FF babies, it's ok to start solids closer to the 6 month mark (whereas with BF babies, it's better to delay closer to 9-12m if possible) as long as they show ALL the signs of readiness.

Formula acts differently on a baby's digestive system than breastmilk does, so there is not a great "benefit" in delaying a FF baby (with all the signs of readiness) past the 6-8m mark.

If you'd like more specifics on that, just let me know and I'll get you some links. =D

hi ladies! sorry I have been MIA for a few months. First we bought a house and then we went to the states for a few months, but I'm back home now (in Austria) and hopefully can be more active in here.

here is the main link about delaying solids:
http://kellymom.com/nutrition/starting-solids/delay-solids/

included in that link, it says this:
Although some of the reasons listed here assume that your baby is breastfed or fed breastmilk only, experts recommend that solids be delayed for formula fed babies also.

This website is all about this book that I highly recommend called "the Baby Bond". This link has a section where it talks about reasons for starting a formula fed baby on solids earlier than you would for an exclusively BF-baby:
http://thebabybond.com/FormulaFeedingNecessary.html

here is a quote from that link. Generally it says that if your baby is having TROUBLE while on formula, then it might be beneficial to go ahead and start solids a little earlier in order to help them gain weight and have less troubles. If your baby is doing fine on formula alone though, it's still best to wait until at LEAST 6 months and THEN check for all the signs of readiness.

Consider starting solids sooner
Studies show that delaying the introduction of solid foods is highly beneficial when a baby is exclusively breastfed — but the same does not always ring true for formula-fed or formula-supplemented infants. It is difficult for some formula-fed infants to gain enough iron from their formula, no matter how much is in it, and babies’ own iron stores may begin running out after several months. Dark-colored vegetables also have valuable antioxidants and fiber that have been missing in the formula diet.
Earlier solids are not for every formula-fed baby but babies who have been experiencing a slight intolerance to their formula may robustly respond to the introduction of non-dairy, healthy solid foods. Some formula-fed babies fare better with introductions of strained vegetables, meats or a little fortified brown rice cereal as early as 4 months. Sugary foods, juice or plain white-flour snacks have much less nutritional value than formula and are not appropriate for babies. Delay the introduction of fruit, which teaches babies to acquire a taste for sweet foods, unless you are trying prunes for constipation.
