Ive decided when the time comes to totally skip cereal. I dont want to give my son let alone blow my money on stuff that has not that great of nutrition.

Ive also decided to make my own baby food.

Why are people so frikken anxious and gunning to shove solids down their babies throat before they are ready?

This drives me CRAZY!

That said, I think ppl view food as a 'milestone' much like crawling, walking, etc. Like the baby's ability to consume food is seen as them being advanced... I was talking to a woman with older children who said when her children were babies ppl would brag about when their child was able toneat cereal.

I agree   I breastfeed & it makes me kind of sad that my LO is starting food, because starting solids is the 'first steps toward weaning'. Though I am not even thinking of weaning from the breast, it still makes me sad. I guess I'm the exact opposite of ppl who brag about them starting food hehe.

IDK. the only thing I can think of, is that they think it's like hitting a milestone like walking or talking or something .. when it's not. Eating is not a milestone. Newborns eat!

LOL!!! "newborns eat" I love that!!!! makes a very good point. I do not understand the idea that ppl think their child developed the need for dolid food sooner. Also, feeding a child solids os EXPENSIVE! why be in such a hurry to have them start 'eating you outta house & home' haha

and it's just more work! (if you start early) you have to prepare the food, warm the food, fix the food, spoon feed them, clean them, clean the high chair, clean the dish ... who WANTS to start doing that before you have to? I'd happily EBF for 2 years if I could! lol

HAHA! yup!!! I skipped purees & LO still eats very little, and already it is soooo much more work! No more 'lift shirt & serve' lol. well, theres still plenty of lift & serve, but adding food is not convenient

We're coming up on my sons 6month check up. I'm planning on doing the whole nod and smile routine when he asks about solids, lol.
They tend to ask how much and often are they eating solids, any way to get around that question ?

well if he's still only 6months or younger, you could say that you are thinking about starting solids in the near future, but haven't actually started them yet. That might get you off the hook and of course your "near future" could be anytime.

It's up to you if you want to say that you are planning (or still are) EBF for longer.
