re: "DELAYED" SOLIDS (6m+) support and info

My daughter's pedi gave me no trouble with the whole solids thing, besides a 6 months is the recommended age thing, that was it. Never have been pestered by anyone though .

The truth. I'm lucky in the fact that he okay's them at 6 months. But if you EBF he'll straight out say whenever you want is fine. Breast milk is complete nutrition for the complete first year and we can wait until then to introduce. I have given LO table foods here and there recently. Not a lot, just a few bites if that. Not even every day and he's growing great.
Peds can have opinions all day and night. What it comes down to is you are the parent, and you don't ave to do a damn thing they say. Now, I wouldn't suggest that about everything as they are a dr for a reason. However, a lot of drs have what I call a God complex. Just have to nod and smile or find a new ped more in line with your beliefs and practices as a parent.

We plan on waiting until at least 6 months before starting cereal. My family thinks I'm crazy waiting that long. But I know breast milk is enough for her.

I wouldn't even bother with cereal! It has almost no nutritional value, and babies like flavour!

Really? I never thought of skipping it. Time for more reasearch. I plan on making my own food too.

Interesting.
So what would be an example of that?

I'd say offering finger foods at meal times and basically getting rid of your perceptions of what and how much she should eat. If you wanted to do purees, make them lumpy so she still learns to chew a little, and if she seems done, she is done. From 7 or 8 months we would give DD finger foods like cucumber, toast, carrot sticks (cooked or raw), shredded chicken or beef.. pretty much simple versions of what we ate. She loves entertaining herself with the food while we eat. When she starts to throw stuff on the floor I know she's done!

Yep. All this. For a first food I started with bananas cut into strips, then avocados, then toast strips, plain noodles, and so on. Once he got over the gagging (which is totally normal but can be scary!) I started serving him what we were eating. And yes, throwing food means not hungry or done in my house.

The gagging or choking part is what scares me the most. So starting out at 6 months I could give her a banana in chunks. Do you give it to her or set it in front of her?

I swt them in front of Ellyanna. I also took a cpr class before starting her on solids for my own comfort

BLW is great! Personally, I waited until 12m because I wanted my son to get the maximum benefits of breastmilk for as long as possible. By that age, I just let him try anything he wanted from our plate. He was still choking, so I didn't push it, but by 12m 2w, he wasn't choking and would snack on pretzels. He still wasn't that interested in food until closer to 18m.

I would just wait until he can feed himself. It's SO much easier than trying to make separate baby food and trying to feed them. trust me!

So I chopped up some carrots and lightly steamed them (like I wanted them not to be super soft but still softer than raw) and she seemed to like that as a little snack today. She has 4 teeth still (she has had only 4 teeth for the longest time lol) and was able to chew it.

I've pretty much accepted this baby will eat anything I put in front of her, I hope she stays that way into older childhood .
