Cleaning a penis

So i have no idea how to clean so i will leave it up to my SO when the time comes, my son is only 5.5 months now. Anyway, my FIL was saying his nephew (  had to be circumcised the other day because his penis got dirty and possibly an infection there. He was saying his brother asked when you are meant to pull the foreskin back to clean, i always thought it was puberty, my FIL told him they started when their boys were 2 and only pulled it back gently and didnt force it. Which is right?

It will separate on it's own. My son is 15 months and I don't pull his foreskin back. Boys will naturally do that themselves when they start realizing they have a penis.

From what I have been told by my doctors and other ladies on here, you do not force the foreskin back at all. It does it on it's own during puberty. Pulling the skin back is doing more damage than good.

Until it is retractable, just wipe it off like a finger. Do not attempt to retract it to clean. When the child starts retracting it on his own, just use a little warm water at bath time.

You never pull it back, once your LO has figured it out & you see them pull it back (you know how little boys play with it etc) then you can encourage pulling back to clean..

Im pretty sure DH's never retracted behind the head until he was 17 - the first time we had sex. He said it was really painful for the first few times & over time it loosened up enough and now comes back easily

I think both are true but ONLY pull it back to clean if LO loosens it up himself.

You are never suppose to retract the skin.
You're suppose to clean it as you would a finger.
It retracts on its own during puberty.

One of my DS skin is really tight and he plays with it, but it won't pull back. And we do NOT force it. My other DS can fully retract his now at age 4, but he just started doing it around 3, during bath time. It happens when it happens. We started seeing how easy the skin pulled back with both around age 2. But very gently.

my son has had balanitis once. his foreskin doesnt fully retract but he can pull it back a bit. he pulls it back himself during bath time to clean it like his father showed him.

Wow I did not know this. I took my son to the er for a high fever and they needed urine so they put a catheter on him and the nurse asked if I had been pulling the skin back to clean and I said no. She said I was suppose to and she did it to him there, it was so hard to watch as he cried. I haven't been doing it, just cleaning him with warm soapy water. I'm also letting the SO handle it. I'm glad I found this post.

Did you get him treatment for it afterwards? What she did can cause major problems down the road and is malpractice. I recently had to file a formal complaint against a nurse practitioner for attempting to do the same thing.

You can file a comlaint?!? When my DS was 2 months old our first pediatrician Raging Bitch, friggin pulled his skin back so far he wailed in pain and started bleeding tons. She started laughing, ran out, grabbed some ointment, came back and was applying it saying Oh my I've never seen a kid with his foreskin so tight against the head, I guess I won't do that again. I seriously wish I could've punched her in the nose.

No, at the time I thought she knew what she was doing. I am taking him to the doctor Monday cause he is sick again with something else and ill talk to the doctor. I just can't believe I let her do that, I feel horrible now. He hasn't had any issues with it, it happened about 6 months ago or more. What did they say when you made the complaint? I still have his hospital paperwork, maybe I can find her name and do the same.

Yes, go online and find the website for the state licensing board of wherever you live. There will be links on how to file a complaint against her. Also, go to this website. http://doctorsopposingcircumcision.org/ Very informative. They helped me with my case.
