Dameon Jayden Lee has Arrived
posted 18th Apr
Well ladies, my baby Dameon arrived April 15th at 2:46pm, by C-section. He was 5lbs 9oz, 20 1/2 inches long with a head full of brownish blond hair. He scored a 9/9 on his Apgar.
But let's start from the beginning, because there is a lot more to tell.
Monday I had my 36 week appointment. My BP was 160/100, and since my protein was up still, my doctor admitted me to the hospital immediately. I was admitted at about 11am central on Monday. After 3 lidocane sticks and 5 tries, they finally got an IV line in for me. I was put on the monitors for a while, and then at about 8pm, they moved me to a birthing room. I was placed on a magnesium sulfate drip (can we say BURN?), a foley catheter, and they inserted cervidil to try and soften my cervix, which was still high and thick, and only dilated to 1.
By morning, my cervix hadn't softened or dilated anymore, but contractions had started. My BP was down because of the Magnesium (which is was meant to do), but the doctor decided he wasn't even going to try to induce, because my platelets had gone from 300 to 100 in less than 24 hours. It was now time for a C-section.
My mom, who wasn't scheduled to arrive until today, arrived about 1:45pm. At about 2:15pm, they took me into the OR, and performed a spinal. I got a shot of lidocane in my back, which was about the only thing I felt the entire time, because it did a great job of numbing up the injection site for the spinal! All I felt after that was pressure. The spinal was a one shot thing, instead of the catheter that they use for an epidural, so I was numb from the bottom of my boobs to the bottom of my feet. The surgery started at 2:35pm, baby Dameon was born at 2:46pm, and I was back in my room before 3:30.
Here is the bad news. Despite the amazing score on his Apgar, baby Dameon was breathing too fast. They took him for x-rays and his little lungs are under developed. They transferred him to the NICU in Montgomery at about 8:45pm Monday night. Daddy left about 1:30 Tuesday morning and stayed at Baptist South with Dameon until last night.
After finally being discharged yesterday, I got to go up to Montgomery to see my baby. Before they transferred him, I only got to see him for a few minutes. I still have not been able to hold him.
He is on a ventilator, but is breathing for himself. The vent is set that if he doesn't take at least 30 breaths a minute, or doesn't breath deeply enough, the machine will give him those breaths, but he seems to be doing a good job of breathing on his own. They cut his umbilical cord to flush with his belly to insert an Art line so they can stop pricking his little heels for blood, and he has a pic line in to give him food. They say he is doing very well, and is a lot more healthy than most of the babies they get in. He has lost 3 oz since he was born, but they say that is normal. His color is good, and so are his reflexes. He'll wrap his little hands around your finger, and jump if he's startled. They are saying to expect him to stay until his due date (May 12th) but he could leave sooner, or it could be as long as 2 months. They do not expect it to be that long, and with the way he's progressing, we may only be looking at about 2 weeks.
Mom has me staying at the B&B with her until tomorrow when she leaves to go back to Kansas, to make sure I don't get a secondary infection while I'm healing from the C-section (I go to get my staples out Monday). We're about to leave to go see Dameon when she gets out of the shower. I will post pictures as soon as I can. Please keep us in your prayers ladies. My baby is so beautiful, and very healthy, except that his little lungs are still under developed. So please pray that my little man gets better soon so I can bring him home. So I can hold him. So we can all stop worrying.

First I'd like to thank you ladies for your support. Dameon is getting better slowly but surely. They are weaning him off the ventilator this week much more agressively. It was giving him 52 breaths at 8:30am yesterday, and by 8:30am today we were down to 26. Yay! Even better, they are feeding him now He started at 5cc every 6 hours, and they slowly bumped him up, and starting at 3pm today he'll be at 12cc ever 3 hours. And every time they upped his feedings (3 cc's every 12 hours) they drop one cc from his TPN (the IV nutrients). Also, the pnuemonia in his right lung is clearing up beautifully.
My little man is a fighter. They are doing blood gasses again at 4pm today, and if they come back good, they'll be weaning him down even more on the vent. Hopefully by tomorrow we'll have his art line out, and if we do, I'll get to hold him when I go up to Montgomery tomorrow! Everything is looking promising. He is so strong, and such a good fighter, he's getting better. Hopefully (and this is a big probably) we'll have him home by mother's day (his due date is the day after mother's day). I will post pics as soon as I have them online.
