Having a c-section tomorrow

posted 28th Feb '12
I'm really nervous since I've never had any type of surgery in my life, but I'm sure both me and my son will be fine. I guess I just wanted to ask how badly getting the epidural hurts, and how much you can feel during the surgery?

its the recovery that is horrible not the epidural or actual procedure. They expect you to recover from a major abdominal surgery and take care of a newborn. Probably the hardest thing I've ever done and I had practically no pain during recovery. I was just extremely exhausted trying to recover.

The spinal didn't really hurt me at all...that I remember. That's been 3.5 years though lol.

All you really feel during the actual surgery is a lot of pressure and pulling. Cause, you know...they're literally ripping a person out of you

LOL But no, it's really not bad. It's slightly odd, but that's to be expected.

Epidural did not bother me at all. I think I was just so ready to get it that it didn't phase me. Maybe just a small pinch but nothing unbearable at all. As far as C Section goes - I didn't feel a thing. My anesthesiologist had this instrument she ran across my tummy (I'm assuming most of them have this) to see if I could feel anything - and I felt nothing. They told me that I would probably feel a lot of pressure when they were pushing and tugging on me to get her out, but I didn't even feel that. You'll be fine!

The spinal wasn't that bad...I was more freaked out about it hurting and then it didn't hurt at all. You can't really feel anything during the actual csection besides some pressure when they pull baby out.

Getting out of bed for the first time after the csection is extremely hard! And forcing yourself to walk around in the halls...that is the best thing you can do for yourself is to be up walking and moving, makes recovery easier on you

Good luck momma

YES! I totally agree. Getting up the first time sucked royally, but I'm glad I got moving as soon as I did because each time I got up it got easier and easier.

My planned C-section was easy. I had the spinal, it hurt much more then a bee sting (which is what they told me it would feel like). My epidural for my emergency C-section did not hurt at all however. You won't or should not be able to feel anything except pressure and pulling, it doesn't hurt.

Definitely, the more you move around and such the easier it is on you. BUT...make sure that when you do get up, you get up slowly and carefully. My son scared me the second night in the hospital and I jumped up out of bed so fast...I was regretting that for quite a while afterwards.

AGREED take your time getting up! If it hurts when you are trying to get up stop and try a different way or slow down!

I walk the halls while baby is up so that way when baby goes to sleep I can take a nap

I had a repeat csection Saturday. I had a spinal and it didn't hurt. Just like a regular needle. I didn't feel anything besides pressure which is completely normal.
